Just a different perspective on this. My reading of the article (could be wrong) is that it was Spanish Tourism Chiefs who wanted this not British people.

As a Brit who has recently sold our holiday home on the Iberian Peninsula after twenty years of ownership it is not something we regret.

I am honest enough to admit that the 90-180 was one of our main reasons for selling but now instead of numerous trips to Portugal a year we are now discovering different places outside of the Schengen and discovering parts of the UK we had not previously seen. Obviously the money we used to spend in Portugal is now spent elsewhere. Rather embarrassingly I have probably been to Portugal circa 200 times and have never been to The Isle of Man!! A situation to be rectified next year!

I know of a few other British people who have done similar and yes I know that Brits will be replaced by other Northern Europeans but they do tend to have different spending habits when it comes to socialising.
