Wouldn't surprise me (although it would also sadden me) to hear it also happens in other countries like Spain. Or anywhere really. The human race is capable of truly evil things, and no country has a monopoly on this.
well the UK now has the revelations over the weekend of people being held as work slaves at 4 or 5 traveller camps, all organised by the Connor family showing another side to caring sharing Britain...
It was claimed that they were approaching people at soup kitchens with offers of work, taking them back to the camp and "storing" them in unsanitary conditions then sending them out to do the labouring on the black jobs such as guttering, drives and patios they travellers seem to be so adept at finding.
They are said to have been beaten and abused over prolonged periods, not given any toilet or cleaning facilities, not paid. One guy is supposed to have been held for ISTR 15 years. Some of those found in a police raid are so shocked\embarrassed\frightened they have refused to comment to the police.

You do wonder if local police make investigating work camps much of a priority? I'm sure there have been reports of virtual slave labour in the Spanish salad encampments, and we all remember the chinese cockle harvesters left to their fate up near Morecambe. All a consequence of always choosing the lowest price, and bringing in vulnerable migrants to do the work. Worst thing is, we are all partly guilty as we often choose the lowest priced supermarkets to buy our goods.

Haven't a lot of those gyppo slaves gone back

Can I ask why we always end up talking about the UK...could it be that some of you are not as integrated as you make out

Bloody thieving pikey scum. Personally I would have napalmed the site.

In our village where we lived, the pikeys were always around, stealing anything that wasn't nailed down.

They have dumped all their rubbish, including tons of asbestos all over their site, and it's UK taxpayers that will have to pay for it all to be cleaned up.

I kind of feel it's not a question of not being integrated that British people find any interest in talking about the United Kingdom/matters related thereto. Maybe on the one hand they're interested in what's going on in the land of their birth (which of course it may not be!) . Maybe they're interested because they're interested in people full stop and the contrast-comparison-debate therefrom. Maybe on the other hand they're embarrassed by the Brits.

Could it be that the Brits that embarrassed us have gone home and the ones that used to embarrass us when coming over on holiday can no longer afford to come over? Has the crisis meant that we are no longer as embarrassed as before? Have those Union Jack shorts got too expensive? Tattoos aren't cheap either.

Are the benefit cheats being caught as they film them getting on Ryan Air flights to their holiday homes? I don't see as many grey ponytails as I used to and yellow number plates are a rarity now. And the lower level Brit pubs are closing everywhere.

couple of months ago near here we had 30 Eastern Europeans discovered living on site, some in a disused greenhouse, no proper toilets and washing. Site owner said he didnt know he was there and had rented the greenhouse to the gangmaster but didnt know what he was doing with it.

the name of the game is PROFIT, not price.

how much is a locally grown lettuce when compared with UK when a cos is 60p -£1 after flying from spain. get better seats than we do on Ryanair.

Going downhill because no one can afford to go there because of the Euro, lots of Brits going home if they can sell their houses at a loss.
