Electricity Help
Can anyone advise as to the procedure, if you are only in Spain certain times of the year, do you still have to pay the standard charge each month ?
Or is there another way.
Any advice would be helpful.
Kind Regards

Re: Electricity Help
Friends returned to UK in Sept and their electricity supply with Iberdrola is turned off via the main fuse board except when I go round to check everything is ok.
They still get a bill from Iberdrola usually for around €17. This is for the equipment rental (presumably the meter) and for the standing charge.

Actually you can have a tariff which doesn't include a standing charge. We have this from Scottish Power. We don't pay a standing charge for either electric or gas when we're away, although we still have to pay Iberdrola (which actually owns Scottish Power LOL) every month, whether we consume anything or not. I assume the cost is in the unit price.

What does it call it on the bill?

Re: Electricity Help
All we pay for is every KW hour we consume at the unit price, plus VAT at 5%!!!. There are no other charges

Re: Electricity Help
Whilst I take your point Fred, I do think the differences between the two countries are relevant to the discussion.
Absolutely right, I don't pay anything, whereas in Spain I pay €0.52 per day (my potencia is 9.2kw) whether I'm there or not.
What I'm not clear about is whether this has been driven by the deregulation of the market in the UK, which has been in place for about 15 years, whereas, of course in Spain it only happened last year. We shall see

Re: Electricity Help
For 90% of domestic customers in Spain, the market has not yet been deregulated as they are all still on the state controlled TUR tariff.

Re: Electricity Help
Well, actually as I pay bills in both countries, I was going to post a comparison of the unit cost, based on my consumptions (because if you don't use consumptions it's very difficult to compare) but if you don't think it's relevant or others won't be interested, I won't post it.

Re: Electricity Help
So, if you are on an 8.8kw contract it would be about €17 a month.
You need to check on your last bill what is shown under "potencia contactada"

Re: Electricity Help
Contracted rate - 0.056529 euros/kW/day so for 3.5kW for a month this is about 5.90 euros
PLUS
rental of equipment - 0.050301 euros/day so this is 1.5 euros per month.
Total monthly charge with no consumption based on 3.5kW is 7.4 euros
PLUS IVA of course
