I must be doing something wrong, my elecy bill is on average €480 every 2 months.
I blame the wife, she seems to have the tumble dryer on 24hrs a day.

MADRID, Dec 31 (Reuters) - The Spanish government has agreed to let power
companies raise electricity tariffs over 20 percent over the next three years,
El Economista reported Wednesday without citing a source.
The agreement is part of the government's plan to eliminate the yawning
gap between what utilities charge clients for electricity and the cost of
generating it, which is known as the tariff deficit, El Economista said.
Snip, too much cut and paste, just post a link to the story, ta.

Am I the only person to have heard of this? It does appear to be Iberdrola's best kept secret. This is a night tariff which costs 30% more per unit of electricity between 1300 and 2300 in summer (one hour earlier in winter) but 50% less for the remaining 14 hours. If you do the maths - yes, I did! - you'll find that the running costs for a fridge, obviously on 24 hours/day, are 16% lower than on a standard tariff. Also, anything like a washing machine or dishwasher should be used in the off-peak period only and running aircon in a bedroom overnight will be half the normal price. There is a cost involved to switch tariffs which is as much a state secret as the tariff itself: apparently, it depends on the "potencia" of your property.

I have been on this system for 5 years.
The figures you quote are slightly out of date - it is now only 20% more during the peak rate and 47% less off peak.
The savings are there even if you use a relatively small amount of power and don't try to adjust your usage pattern. If you spend some time optimising the usage of your appliances the savings can be very high. In the winter we have achieved 78% of our usage in the cheap period.
Another bonus is that the excess usage charge of an extra 28% for usage over 500kwh/mth does not apply to this tariff.
We are high users of electricity (about 1000kwh/mth) and we save over €700 a year on this tariff.
