A Friend of Mrs P was getting like bills then 2 years later the big one came. She was on the wrong tariff and not having the meter read because they couldn't be bothered to read it.But she still owed them over 1000 euro. I would suggest anyone with bills under 100 euros for two months should take their reading to their supplier and check,Also look for the E after the usage which idicates the bill is an estimate.Because you may have a sudden shock unless of course you live in a shoebox at the bottom of betris's garden.

Which has reminded me to post a cautionary tale: about six months after buying/moving in, we received a gigantic bill (think it was water) & the only possible explanation was that being deep in campo they hadn't been reading the meter & we were copping for the bill(s) of the previous owner who during that time had emptied, repaired & refilled the pool..... we couldn't get out of paying, of course. So estimates/meters not being read can sneak up & bite the wrong person on the bum

Maybe it depends on your supplier but Endesa/Sevillana have a highlighted note at the bottom of the bill explaining that it will be monthly after November 1st.

Yes, I think I should have mentioned, when I wrote the original post, that we´re with Endesa. Sorry if I misled anyone.

Hi Fred now I am getting ready to manic I'm with Endesa and my last bill is dated 23rd October, there is a yellow highlighted bit at the bottom of the page

" Atencion al Cliente, Calefaccion con endesa, descubra como ahorrar energia y dinero. Llamenos al 902 502040 y le contamos."

My Spanish is very poor but I am sure that is telling me to ring them about heating with endesa and saving money.

Oh well as with everything here in Chiclana I expect I will have to wait and see what happens

It wouldn't surprise me if they don't get it sorted out until well into next year!

I think they put a variety of messages in that yellow section - it seems to vary from month to month!

It is now law though - this is what it says on the website.

"El Real Decreto 1578/2008 del Ministerio de Industria, publicado el pasado 27 de septiembre, establece la obligatoriedad para las Empresas Distribuidoras de electricidad de facturar, a partir del 1 de noviembre, con periodicidad mensual. Esta ley es de aplicación a los suministros domésticos con una potencia contratada de hasta 10kW."

Essentially that says that from November 1st, all distributors will invoice monthly unless your contracted potencia is over 10Kw.

They also go on to say that the meter will be read every two months as before. For those months where the meter is not read the reading will be estimated based on the historical usage data from your account.

If you don't have it and want to change to it, it means a new meter and time switch.

It can save quite a lot of money, particularly if you can control your usage pattern - dishwashers, washing machines, pumps etc.

It saves me over 400€ a year.
Here in UK we have a white meter and run the dishwasher, washing machine, immersion heater and heated towel rail in the bathroom overnight at different times and for different periods. When we come over in Jan I want to do the same and add the pool pump to the list but also supplement the latter with a solar panel (photovoltaic) in summer daytime if the linkage for the DC power is simple to do.

Just zapping from the French Forum. I checked our EdF bills out of interest, and the average per month over the last 12 months is about 68 €, AND we don't use electricity for heating or for hot-water....

Over a 12 month period ours works out to about 90 per month, we have aircon in the summer and warmair in the winter, the summer bills june , July and August are the highest, in the region of 240 for 2 months as we have the pool ticking over at least 12 hours a day and aircon. Also cook with leccy but heat hot by gas.
