Do British televisions work in Spain?

OK so I've had a look at the bandwidth implications using a bandwidth monitor.
I have a 3mb/s connection. Running BBC1 it takes about half of that at 1.5mb/s
That works out at about 10MB/minute which means you will use up 1GB in about 100 minutes.
Could be pretty expensive on a mobile dongle!

Again, sometimes "Freeview" branded digital receivers may not work 100% correctly in other countries.
the "freeview" software inside is designed purely for the use with Freeview, the UK service. It may work OK in Spain, it may not work OK in Spain.
"On screen languages" mean what languiage you have your menus on the recorder...not what countries they will work in, or what "alternate " soundtrack they will use.
If you select your OSD to Spanish, then all your menus will be in Spainish.
Ideally, if you can you need to change the Country Settings from UK, to Spain, or other, and make your freeview perform like a "generic" or nonfreeview box.

I'm not sure if this his been mentioned before, but I brought by digital TV with me from the UK. It is about 5 years old and has a built-in digital tuner and gets all the Spanish DTT channels. The best bit is you can select "VO" version-original from the menus and you can actually choose to watch many UK and US shows and films in English rather than in Spanish.
This is great as you can keep choosing what language to watch them in. Warning, it doesnt work for all shows though.

and that is my point...
anything with a "generic" digital tv receiver will, generally, work with any digital tv system in (almost!) any country....
but Freeview tuners and the Freeview software are designed specifically for the UK and UK only, and the Freeview software, in many cases, does not recognise the "second audio" tags such as VO, MUL, DOS or QAA which are used by Spanish broadcasters - the freeview software does recognise audio tags of English (OK for SET and Disney channels on TDT who do use these tags!), Gaelic and Welsh!
non Freeview, generic digital receiver will recognise the various langauge tags used on TDT as they will not be tied down by the freeview software as they dont use freeview software, just their own basic software.
there is no Freeview in Spain, as there is not yet a "company" that operates the system for all the broadcasters (like Freeview does), hence the variety of language options available...if they were controlled more, then TDT software could be made available and these language tags harmonized...
And on some Freeview boxes, they do not scan all the frequecies used by other countries - channels 69 is used in Spain by Anteanne3, but channels 69 is not used in the UK for digital tv and so freeview boxes dont / cannot scan this frequency.
