OK, not the right place, but nowhere else to put it

I bought a new bike. I figured out all the gears and suspension, but there is one thing on the handlebars that I cant figure at all as it isnt mentioned anywhere in the manual

Any clever cyclists out there recognise what it might be? Its simply a round plastic thing strapped to the handlebar with a spring loaded button on the side, not connected to anything

Remarkably it does seem to be some kind of inadequate bell. You have to pull the button back and let it go, and it makes little noise

It appears that to be a Supermod, you dont have to know how to ring the bell on yer bike. :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

(It´s a bell, put your thumb on the smaller part with grooves, it´s on a spring. Pull back, let go: "Pling"!)

A bit of understanding is what's called for here.
The thing is it can take some old timers a while to get their heads around such modern technology as bells on bikes.
After all they've only been around for a hundred years or so. ;)

Well, it aint a bell as I know it, and 5 people looked at it this week including a hardened cyclist on an internet forum, so that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. :D

Frankly it would be absolutely useless as a bell anyway, cos it makes hardly any noise

How does it work?

Do you just ring the bell and when they dont hear it, you give them a big boot up the jacksy to move them out of the way?

Has someone taught you the key words and put stickers on the vital parts for you? Saddle, pedals, handlebars etc, can picture you getting on the wrong way and finding the handlebars very uncomfortable for your rear. Have you got a safety helmet? Are you really going to do a long ride, if so is it for charity?

With regards to the unknown object.... maybe its a Transformer and it "Transforms" into a giant lycra clad robot whose sole objective it to clog up the roads and irritate drivers?

Are you being a bit unfair to Mitzy here, just because he doesnt understand the more sophisticated "extras" on the bike, like the bell, does not mean that he should not be let out alone.

Oh, well I will say no more, you obviously know what the score is, just make sure he puts his helmet on and has a paper with his name and address on with him, when he starts his travels.

No, I had a list of where I had put the bits of paper, but I seem to have lost the list somewhere. I shall have to make a list of where I put the list. That might help

Aye the silly cyclists bell... does nothing to deter an idiot in a 4x4 that cuts infront of you. Actually mopeds are worse.. as you have no engine you are scum of the earth so just act like youre invisible.
Personally i'd like to replace my little bell with a big ass HGV horn. unfortunately the HGV horns are just too big and heavy to attach to a bike.. So perhaps I should look at a Boss speaker set up attached to an mp3 player with a recording of a HGV horn instead.. hmmm.. There is always a way :)

I am sick of car drivers cutting me up and of them going in the outs and trying to knock me off my bike. Don't they know it is us cyclists that get points for running cars off the road. (thats a joke by the way)

I'm sick of cyclists weaving through traffic cutting in front of me whilst I am moving, you would think they had a DEATH WHISH.
When it comes to obeying traffic lights / crossings etc. don't even mention it :thumbdown:

I'm cycling about 20 miles a day at the moment, and although the majority of car drivers seem to be quite courteous in that they move well away from you when passing, one or two have nearly had me off my bike on roundabouts. That tends to be when they are turning right and I am going straight on.

This morning a car came around a blind T junction at speed on the wrong side of the road. He narrowly missed a car coming the other way, but if he had swerved then it would have been me that took it head on! :frown:

:-) I don't weave through traffic, I want to live. I stay to right as much as possible, normally inside the white line at the side of road if there is one. I always obey the traffic lights/crossings. I have cycled the wrong way on a No Entry ... I was new here and did not look at signpost I followed a car !

As a pedestrian I loathe cyclists ! in town they rule, they have no thought for other road users of any kind :thumbdown:

The lycra clad ones are worst ! in more ways than one :rofl:
