Default CRB/Spain

Has anyone on here moved back to the Uk and needed a CRB check from Spain? Otherwise known as a Certificate of good conduct? If so can you please point me to a site where I can view how to obtain one.

Thanks Dick, I have joined the forum and read a thread pertaining to this subject, still seems a bit confusing though, I would like to hear from someone who has already done this and can explain the procedure

Do the British and Spanish Police/CRB not exchange info for the likes of a normal CRB check? or is it against the data protection act unless part of an investigation?

Spoken to the local police and they said a normal CRB check wouldn't cover our time in Spain, however, I have spoken to the lady who is doing the paperwork for my husbands new job and she said the CRB only covers this country. I have found a website now and think I may have the answers. Will post when it's all complete and put the procedure on the free beer thread.

So its worryingly open to abuse ,ie if an employee has been very naughty in Spain and chooses not to tell the UK police they may never know

Good point .... when we asked at the police station we were told it would have been easier if we hadn't mentioned Spain when applying for the job

Not that a CRB is worth the paper it's printed on ... it's just another hoop to jump through.

Good luck to OH with his job and let's hope 2012 is a good year for you both.

I used to have to verify people's identity for CRB applications and countersign their forms as part of my job. The CRB themselves say that their certificates are out of date the day after they are issued, as the person concerned could go out and commit a crime at any time which they would be unaware of. If someone got a CRB certificate in January and applied for a new job in February, they would need a brand new certificate (and have to pay another application fee!).

I know that there is a Spanish equivalent as a couple of acquaintances have applied for work as carers through a UK agency which advertises in the Spanish press and they have had to get one, but as they are currently away working in the UK I can't ask them about the process, sorry.

wasnt there a big row about CRB's, there being more than one issueing authority, each charging their own search fees, ??
seem to recall something about £several hundreds to CRB a new employee.

AFAIK it is only the CRB itself which is able to undertake the checks and issue the certificate. At the time I was involved (5 years ago so might have gone up by now) the fee was £35 which was paid by the applicants themselves.

All applicants do, however, have to get their forms checked, identity and proof of address verified, and countersigned by an official body, depending on who they are applying to be employed by. The counter-signatories do not charge a separate fee. In my case, I worked for the regulatory body which controlled the opening of private hospitals and clinics, and every organisation had to have a "Responsible Individual" (normally the CEO if a large organisation, or the owner if a smaller concern) plus a separate Registered Manager, both of whom had to have CRB checks.

The British CRB check is £44 now, that's not a problem, sent for that and it came back yesterday. That's ok. Still need the Spanish one though. Downloaded the form 790 from the mjusticia.es and the form is in Spanish so got to complete that, have hubbys passport copied and verified by a solicitor, £5 ... cheaper than the docs who charge £20 and the fee is 3.54 euros ... but the price is updated every January and the price quoted is January 2011 so will just send a 5 euro note to cover. Hopefully this is all we need to do
