the locks have an exchangeable 'barrel'. Simply remove the steel strip that covers the opening edge of the door and two screws retain the barrel from inside. The barrel slides out and a replacement slides in. A barrel and 5 keys can be purchased from many places for as little as €10. 5 keys alone could set you back this much. I changed mine in 10 minutes. Its a DIY job that most people are capable of. Don't get ripped of by locksmiths!! John

Why not find someone of a like mind and swap barrels (and keys :)) as long as it isn't next door

I was going to add " and someone you know and trust" but I thought that would be self-evident and a bit insulting because of the community spirit we have on this forum ;) - I hadn't considered the Liverpool angle I must confess, I was thinking of the local tea-leafs not the international criminal gangs :)

just make sure that you take the barrel with you to the shop as there are two slightly different designs - almost neglible visual difference - but the incorrect one will not make the deadlocks work.

of course do not do leave your house unattended without the door lock in case betris' 'scouser' mates are doing a drive by ;) - Leptis sell the correct ones

ok seriously.for your peace of mind and security.when you are staying there pop in the new barrel so all your personal stuff is safe.or get a safe fitted .when your leaving pop in the old barrel so the rental co and who ever have still got the keys.if your not renting just leave one key with some one you trust.in case of a emergancy.for the price of a new barrel it saves you worrying about who has got keys.

Why not take the door with you and swap the barrel over at the hardware shop? Always remember to leave a rottweiler in the property to guard the hinges and screws until you return or if these essential parts are stollen the door will no longer hang in the frame. Words of wisdom.
