The forum would be a duller place without argument and in my view adds to it.
I do think some posters are mavericks who just want to be argumentative for the sake of it and I am always surprised(sadly) how personal and vitriolic some of the posters become. I try to avoid those posters.
The majority of posters will join in the debate and see it as no more than that. You also have to realise many of the replies are tongue in cheek (or at least I hope so!)between the posters.

Now Mitzy and Lynnxa.........well what can we say about them......no idea at all.

While he did come up with some off the cuff stuff he was rarely if ever "personal and vitriolic ". He added more debate here than most. A loss to the forum.

Please retract your assumption and stick to the facts.

I agree, Cricketman was an arse, but that the lord for arses! I wouldn't ever want the arses to ever leave, they make a bland site more fun and as much as some might like to think the site would be a better place without them it wouldn't, some people actually join for the banter then find so much more once they are here....

It's not a discussion I wanted to join, but Matt provoked me. I've seldom agreed with his skewed views but he's right on this one.
A discussion forum would die without controversial views to keep it alive. Cman was one such poster. Matt is another one, there are many others.
Flaky characters with flaky views are just as important as the Nodders who nod at everything they read. Balance is the important thing and I realise I'm lecturing so I'm going to shut up.
Almost, I liked Cman, but he was a bit over the top.

Look at post 16. Seems to me that you have red fonted part of johnnyone's quote since that is the first time it is in red. So not using a different version.....

Oh look, a thread about me
I agree with most of the comments too. Sometimes (OK, a lot of the time) I deliberately go over the top to challenge views I see as shortsighted.
But I try not to be personal, even when there are certain posters who speculate about my family, job and income in the name of trying to win an argument.
Healthy debate benefits all parties, but slanging matches benefit noone
