as an aside to all the should they or should they not move I personally would be interested to know how you chose the location of Quesada. It is an area we have considered for the last 6 months visited and re visited and finally been left unable to find a suitable property.

Back to the theme of the original posting. When we arrived in France all those years ago we were criticised for having a foot in both camps in that we retained a house in the UK. We still have that house and with the same tenant but is now moving on.
We left France in April this year to 'try' Spain and had the benefit of visiting before and with friends and family here.
We have rented and my suggestions are if possible to retain a house or bolt hole at least in the UK and rent until you are absolutely certain this is where you want to be.
Here we cannot comment with experience as to Spain per se or Javea where we are and that is left to experienced campaigners of which there are many on this site.
However we have serious misgivings as to their tax guys having a finger in our financial pie and thus we have observed to the day the 183 day rule.
Moreover and this is probably not the view of most on this site but our experience of their health system is not good and for reasons I will not bother you with.
You have to be comfortable with the decision you arrive at so chat it through and research research research.
Ditch the rose coloured tinted spectacles be it France or Spain it is not a holiday and it is a place to live albeit with more sun than the UK.
I am sure it will work out but feet on the ground and if it works for you go for it.
Again on this site we tend to throw insults around like confetti? Why?

Only some people throw out the insults, and there are many more readers than posters as you can see from the stats on the home page(s).
They are a minority, of sad people IMHO.
In my view the ones that throw insults - cant present their argument effectively and maturely - and so their views/opinions have far less credibility, if any at all.........
I try to give these posters the credit they deserve, i.e ignore them, but sometimes I rise to the bait... no-ones perfect I suppose.... certainly pas moi..!

It's ever so tempting to be rude back. 'You're talking crap and know nothing'.
Well, sunshine, let me educate you. Most of us long term expats have come across enough nutters in our time to know what we're talking about.
Of course we feel sorry for people who suffer from clinical depression, schizophrenia and a host of other things. But it's not our fault, we didn't cause people to become nutters and we help them when we can.
But, faced with rudeness, we will respond to the nutters.

This is an excerpt from another one of my posts which I think is appropriate here as well
I still stand by my own opinion of the state of the UK but this is not the only driving force behind the move I have a family and their concerns and aspirations are also important. I am not asking anyone to agree with my opinion but to accept that it has the same validity as theirs
One final point. I came on here to get help and advice and some of the comments are rubbishing my opinions or viewpoint, this not really helpful nor would I regard it as advice
Instead of trying to change my opinion why not try to give me and my family more useful help in advising what we can do before shifting across and what we need to do when we get there
EG. Contacting a spanish Gestor to help with paperwork or things to do before leaving the UK?
There is much more I need to know but looking in here, I must admit, is not as helpful as I would have thought it would be.
Come on people be MORE helpful rather than unhelpful if you want people to continue find this forum useful and hopefully become active members of it.

Those of us who have lived and worked in Spain, give our advice for free. It is your choice to ignore it. Few of us are respond kindly to newcomers asking for help who are ........... less than courteous.
More thanks for the advice and less of the attitude from you would be appreciated.

Well I am doing it in the next month but im just going to sort everything out when I get there.
I have nearly bottled it a couple of times already but until your there.................I would not worry about it, ill be on here a lot from when I move so follow one of my threads and that might help you for next year.
Maybe look at some of the old threads as people may just get fed up of repeating themselves. There is quite a lot of subjects similar to this if you use the search function

Although some of the replies to you may appear to be negative they are coming from a place of experience of what others here have been through, or what they've seen their fellow expats go through, so to that extent they are being helpful. If you read negative stuff then at least you are better prepared for the move as you will know what it's like warts and all to live in Spain. No one is questioning your judgement, or motivation, but by in turn asking you questions they can help answer you by sharing relevant info. The more you know, the bigger the picture you can get.
Oh and welcome to BE

Hi Andy, We searched long and hard before choosing Ciudad Quesada. We have travelled extensively throughout Spain and still regard it as the ideal location for our needs. We all have differing requirements and Quesada may not suit everyone.
If you would like to PM me with your requirements and or specific questions, I shall be pleased to help if I can.

I am moving to Lo Maribu for year one, Ill be honest, I never liked all of Quesada - but when I had been the first time I had no car.................since then I have been back (with a car) its grown on me on me every time and I loved the beaches at Guadamar, In the end for year one it was a toss up between Elche & Quesada but for now I have my sensible head on, I know a couple who live there and have for 10 years, and I know should I have a problem say my car broke down, they would help us, rather than throwing myself into the unknown, its not unknown as I did live in Spain on and off for a while in the mid nineties but I was a completely different person then with a different attitude.
I am really looking forward to it now and it might be the ideal place, it might not ....... but until I have stayed there for a length of time I won't know, but I think its a good place to bed us in.
Im just off for a Roast as its my Birthday today, once the Spurs game is over and on my return I will PM you for sure, thanks for replying
Andy

For sure, there are some grubby areas in Quesada where we would not like to stay. We often visit Elche, it is only 10 minutes from Quesada.
A car in not essential as there is a regular bus service and taxis are cheap. We like to explore and would not like to live anywhere in Spain without a car.
I hope you find what you want. Make sure you visit the Italian restaurant in Rojales.
