In the Uk I knew a very nice polish family.They were given allowances from the UK for their eldest daughter in Poland because she was studying there and could not be with them.

Just because things were like that before, doesnt make it right in todays society.

I understand where you’re coming from, but if you look all around with Twitter, Facebook and all the others, people want discussions that entertain them, and annoy them too. You can’t have a discussion without disagreement, a few minutes ago my wife was watching some Simon Cowell show (Britain’s got talent, or whatever), which thrives on the panel’s disagreement.

Even the odd troll adds to a discussion, it reminds people that trolls are around, sometimes wearing normal clothes like the rest of us.

We cannot go on handing out money like we are and despite what people may think we are handing it out. I couldn't care less about who is receiving it in terms of Polish/European/British but we cannot keep feeding fat, chain smoking, work shy council estate workers who make more money on the dole than they ever would in the workplace.

There isn't the generous benefit system in other countries and their populations cope, and to say that there are not the jobs out there is absolutely ridiculous, my OH's hotel has been advertising for a chambermaid now for 7 months and out of the 6 applicants not one was British.... Now they only pay just above the minimum wage but they feed them and house them for free and they have use of a car.... but no, why would anyone do a job like that when they can get their rent/ council tax/ whatever else paid by the rest of us honest tax payers?


Something has to give, the deficit is already the biggest its been for a generation and we just can't keep paying people to sit on their fat arses.

Now that you’ve brought it down to a local level, I’m qualified to reply, When I lived down your way, some years ago now, I used to watch a bus pulling up in the Market Square to pick up the locals on the dole to take them to some kind of work experience, no foreigners, all Devonians.

They took them to a disused RAF base which they cleaned up for two months. They spent the next two months painting it, and the last two months pulling it down.

Back to the returning sponger...she is getting benefits, they have put her in a Hostal, if they are in a Hostal they get a daily meal allowance. I suspect the Grandson has been "borrowed" as Elspeth pointed out, in order to make sure she got accommodation. Sure thing she never paid any taxes or social in Spain either, we have all seen people like this on the CDS. I know someone who has been on the coast 20 years and has only worked on the black, he is now thinking of going back as he doesn't have enough work.
