car again, replating?
#31

I have just been speaking with a friend over in Spain and mentioned that I intend coming over for 3 months later in the year hoping to drive over with some items for my house. He says that there is a new law that anyone with a none Spanish registered car in Spain for more than a month has to apply for and have temporary number plates fitted to their car or it will be impounded? He says this applies to anyone not just those that are resident?? sounds a bit odd to me as 1 month is not an overly long time for a tourist to visit. Any comments on this is it an early April fools joke or is there some truth in it.

As far as I know, provided that the car is fully road legal in it's country of registration for the duration of a tourist's stay, then it can be in Spain for up to six months, i.e. 183 days, without re-registration.
Therefore tosh agreed.

I thought that would be the case thanks. I think he is getting confused with the resident Brits that after 183 days don't re register which I can understand. I would not have thought that the 1 month rule would do much to improve tourism and would also have thought it would breach EU rules. Thanks for you replies.

Very second paragraph of article says Foreign Spanish residents then at the bottom it mention tourists staying over a month have to get temp plates and pay tax. To me that smacks of throwing the toys out with the bath water can't see how that will do much for tourism to Spain. But that is obviously what my friend has seen I will read the article fully at my leisure. Maybe it's a ploy to get us to hire their cars, great this freedom of movement within the EU, and off course Spanish drivers visiting Spain don't do the same here?? right. Thanks for taking the time to post the article

I used a gestor, a very nice british woman in Denia. After 10 months my car still has the old number plates. I've lost 4000 euros, the gestor's fee and the DUA, which I suspect was never paid by the gestor. So, be careful who you hire.

Given the above may be as well if doing 2/3 months Spain same in Uk buying a little Spanish run around and leaving it out there, (not moving permanent for a couple of years) how easy would it be for insurance if I did this given wont be resident?
