It may not be for YOU, but not for others. Living anywhere requires an effort on your part to make life enjoyable. Happy people tend not to shout from the rooftops about being happy, instead the minority, the whiners go up and moan about how bad their life is, how bad the country is, how bad the roads are (who paid for the nice roads in Spain), how bad the government is et al.
All my family and friends (and I really do mean all) are a happy bunch, most are professionals but just as important they find ways to occupy their lives, have hobbies, interact with others, focus on family; they don't sit on their asses thinking about how hard done by they are, how life has crapped on them because doing that is the highway to a rendezvous with life's moaners.
Life is hard in the UK for many but not as hard as it is for the 30% of the Spanish workforce who can't find work, not as hard as it is the the brits who for whatever reason have gone breasts up in Spain and need to go cap in hand without a pot to pee in back the the very country they could well have been bad mouthing not so long ago.
So, while you are unhappy don't include all of us in your despondency with the UK, its not a true reflection of how many of us think. The UK still has a lot of positive things going for it.
Good luck in Spain, I hope your spirits lift.

Like I said previously I have many family and friends who get on just fine in England and live happy lives I did myself to be fair I have nothing but good people around me in England but that still don't despute the fact that the country has been over run with all sorts and the government just gets walked all over and even the happiest of people will say the same the country gets took for an absolute mug and it's only because most people have children in school or good jobs they said that they wish they could just up an leave England you don't see the Spanish government get the piss took out of them like te English no mate they put there people first end of story and most other countrys infact the uk governments morals are all wrong and you know it. I come from inner city birmingham so I'm going to have a different opinion to somebody who lives in e.g Devon but why would I honour of my way to go and move to Devon that's under the same government I hate when I can just leave the country all together and go and get bet weather ? Lol its only logical. I don't understand why people are chucking there dummies out the pram and defending the shit hole because I know you won't be saying the same thing in 10 years even the most sophisticated people in life will slag England off even though they live there so can you all stop crying xx

I love a discussion, even if it's going over the same ground again and again, there's always a little gem somewhere to lighten the day.
The OP seems to be comparing life in Birmingham to Benidorm, complaining about immigrants in the former. I would suggest that if you take the tourists out of Benidorm, you couldn't put a cigarette paper between the two places, they are both bouncing with immigrants.
I detect a desire to escape from immigrants quite often from expats in Spain, in fact, it's not quite often, it's all the time. It always makes me laugh, immigrants complaining about immigrants.
Spain is a good country for the complaining immigrants, most Spanish people simply ignore them, they're awash with them themselves but tend to exclude them from their own, Spanish lives.
If you scratch beneath the surface and attend a typically Spanish event, like a wedding or a funeral, then, even in expat areas, you won't find many guiris in attendance. Some things are 'muy privado'.

ie taking away ther right of free medical assistance from the unemployed who have used up their rights to the dole.
Why do some poeple write rubbish about subject that they know nowt about, and in such a childish, JK chav style to boot.

Here it's much, much worse as you'd be well aware, if you left the English bars behind and listened to the crack in the Spanish ones, or if you'd attended a Fallas or two or even picked up a Spanish news-rag and glanced at the cartoons.
When it comes to the ignoble art of "taking the piss" I reckon the Spanish have us licked any day of the week.

You are incorrect!! The law changed recently to allow the unemployed to continue receiving health care indefinitely. Certain restrictions apply.
That's the problem with getting information from news reports and the internet in general!!
The people that have the biggest problem receiving health care are those Spanish individuals that have never worked and are therefore not "unemployed". But that's under review at the moment.

What I was pointing out to the previous poster, was that the Spanish government "put their own people first" by doing what they did.
I was trying to point out that, by even just considering to bring in legislation like cutting them out of the syste, it is no quite "putting their own people first".
And I can do without the lecture about who is or is not eligable, and you have confirmed what I was saying, by trying to be smart, that there are a large number of SPANISH people uncovered by anything but emergency care, which it precisely the point I was trying to make.
So do we agree with my post that stated that by excluding either the Spanish unemployed whose dole has run out, or by excluding the Spanish who have never worked that the Spanish gov does not alway put its own people first?
The fact that it may or may not be true at the time of my posting is irrelevant, but the fact it gave you a
moment, because of your misunderstanding does not really take away the pain and hardship that my fellow countrymen feel when denied treatment because they are not eligable in their own country for non emergency treatment. It shows a lot about your thinking, doesnt it, that the fact that in your opinion I got it wrong, and you could point it out on BE, and you found it hilarious seemed to be more important than the actual situation of the vunerable people of Spain.
Sod the disadvantaged Spanish eh? Avocados got one over on JLFS for all to see..........

You really do have hidden shallows........

I love Spain for many reasons, but it has a much worse political system than the UK, more corruption and there are many fewer opportunities for young people, even those who are well educated unlike yourself.
Based on the very little you know, I'd say you'd have a close to 0% chance of building a life for yourself in Spain. The young British people I know who live here either work in a bar for 20 euros per night or sell drugs or (illegal) timeshares and other such scams.
You are an immigrant in Spain who can't speak Spanish who is looking to take work away from the Spaniards. I'd say you should be the last person complaining about immigrants in the UK. And yes I am sure that there are more immigrants in Benidorm than in Birmingham, the same here in the CDS, its swarming with immigrants, myself included.
Oh and make sure you are decaring your UK income in Spain and paying your 260 euros per month social security, otherwise you will be the lowest of the low, a tax avoiding scrounging immigrant who's not even contributing to the system

I shall be waiting for the answer to that one.
Ill give 50 to 1 that he isnt paying into it, and by the underlying tone of Mckennas thread, which is basically the UK has too many immigrants getting benefits, and the UK not looking after its own people because the immigrants get their share first,I would not be surprised if this is a way of getting us going down and "ism" route, so that allcomers can join in.
The Spanish forum has been quite quiet lately, so I think a troll or 2 want to liven it up, hence the guy from Birmingham doing his bit to get the ball rolling.

The "immigrant complaining about immigrants" thing is one of the reasons why I tend to avoid the company of fellow British expats as I find it so prevalent amongst them and I find myself either having to bite my tongue to avoid causing offence (although why I should bother I don't know) or leave rather abruptly.
But to answer the OP's question, I go back to the UK twice a year normally (more if family circumstances or special occasions demand it). I look forward to going, I enjoy myself whilst I'm there seeing family and friends (and my shopping trips are planned like a military operation
) but 4 or 5 days is plenty and after that I'm glad to come home.
I would never have wanted to work in Spain, though, leaving aside the not so small question of the difficulty in finding work if I'd wanted it. I don't think I would have adjusted happily to the siesta period in the afternoons, it would just have felt like a very long working day to me, and the thought of working during the summer temperatures, particularly if you have to commute or travel around during the day, is horrendous. You can't choose when to take your holidays in most jobs, either, it's the Spanish public holidays plus the month of August for most people as far as I can see. I always preferred to be on holiday when most other people weren't.
