Hi Tel we are in much the same position as you but Mr is going to keep working here in UK until he (hopefully) gets to know more people. Like you, he is a competent builder and just wants enough to get by, not rip people off for maximum profit (which is against his principles anyway).
If you don't try, you'll never know will you?
Good luck.

Hi all, me and the mrs have been thinking for quite a while about moving to Spain, mainly due to the usual, weather, rat race etc
Just wanted to test you ex pats that have been there for a while on my ideas, I'm wanting to carry on with building, I've been in building for 30years and would like to carry on in Spain, I've been learning Spanish for the last year and seen as we aren't thinking of doing this for another year at least am pretty sure i'll be able to communicate with builders merchants etc, what I'm wondering is if the business will be enough to survive on, I'm a very competent builder and was hoping that all the expats in the Malaga area would appreciate dealing with an English builder, not wanting to make a fortune, just enough to live in reasonable comfort. Cheers

remember there are LOTS of tradesmen of all sorts already here and quite a few I know of cant earn enough so have gone back to England after living off their savings for a couple of years or they have looked for alternative employment
Its not only the building work, dealing with Spanish methods and materials but there are also the issues and paper work for licences and permissions and having to deal in Spanish with architects and town halls - some not very accommodating either
- remember you need a license for practically all types of building work hereand what is "just enough to live in reasonable comfort" full time earnings are less than UK as you probably already know and depending on the area you are in you might have a lot of competition which drives prices down even further - good for homeowners as long as they get a good job but not necessarily for those wanting to earn a living
I wish you well with your move, as already said, if you dont try you will never know

ive heard it said
you work at our place then
