[QUOTE=Domino;10902178]as someone who has been lambasted by The Harpies for mentioning the island country to the north of France - so much of this thread is off topic, much about the UK but nothing of any susbstance except a fine effort by Lynn to discuss a serious subject on the Spanish Economy.
Considering The Harpies do not live in Spain and to the best of my knowledge have no financial or other ties to the country all they are relying on is their "experience"
and considering the oh so similar posts wonder if they use the same secretary to dictate their posts to.

`
Who on earth has rattled your cage?
You sound very angry or pissed or both.
Spain not working out quite as you expected?

Hey, thanks so much for repeating the point (that increasing levels of public debt are not necessarily an indication that an economy is not recovering, at least if one believes a certain kind of spin) and in bold type too, Jolly obliging of you.

Bank borrowing
Mr Rajoy may derive some comfort from other figures showing that the country's debt-laden banks have been successfully reducing their borrowing from the European Central Bank (ECB) over the year.
Spanish banks borrowed 249.3bn euros from the ECB in August, making it the 12th successive month their borrowing has fallen.
In August 2012, they borrowed 411bn euros from the ECB, a record high, reflecting almost total lack of investor confidence in the country's stricken banking sector.
The banks received 41bn euros of EU bail-out funding in 2012

[QUOTE=stuboy;10902367]
far from it, more than happy with Spain and the Spaniards, yes there are cultural differences, but having been to more than 1 country in my life realise that there will be differences between "them and us" and here I am the Guiri.
just get fed up with The Harpies who keep knocking the country now they have left it and yes they make me angry and pissed off
every country has its problems, internal and external, but to continually be hitting the same old worn buttons on their keyboards is a wind-up.

How on earth can Stuboy's post linked from the BBC be knocking the country.
What do you want censorship of anything not considered good news
If you read the Spanish fora it is clear that the Spanish have lots to whinge about. The item has been in all the European papers. Also that the Troika aren't happy with Spain...they don't think Rajoy has made enough cuts.

The extreme nature of some of the criticism on the Spanish fora of both the past and present Govts. makes anything demonstrated on B.E. look like a Sunday School tea-party.

Austerity in Spain.........
Yesterday we had many shops shut or only open until lunchtime due to a "local" holiday.
In the evening huge sums were spent in letting off fireworks until 10.30 (luckily this year they used more than one location rather than the spare piece of land 2 doors up from our house)
if there is so much Austerity in Spain then why does so much money have to be wasted in such a manner when the village cannot afford to fill the potholes in roads used every day by many vehicles

and why is it that there was no advertising of this "holiday" nor of the events taking place ??
(presumably this is where The Harpies will tell everyone its because I don't speak enough Spanish to pick it up by word of mouth)

Across the border the Algarve has had a good summer for visitors the best for years. Occupancies in the latge resorts exceeded 90% at times.
What surprised us was the large number of Spanish visitors who have returned to Portugal.
Asking a local businessman last week why there were so many more vistors he put it down the " p**** off " factor.
People have had enough of austerity if there is any spare money then why not spend it enjoying yourself, what is the point of savings.
Maybe the way out of austerity will have little to do with governments but down to the man in the street .

Some experts believe that Europe will never recover whilst the present austerity programme exists. They also blame the Euro.
New car sales figures are out today, down in most of the Eurozone.
The monthly downturn was distributed across Europe's biggest markets - Germany dropped 5.5pc, France fell 10.5pc, Spain was down 18.3pc, and Italy slid 6.6pc.
One country did well increasing sales by 10.9%

There is a very simple reason for this, UK car retailers are falling overthemselves with offers. Almost any vehicle is now available on low cost leasing deals.
I had at least 6 emails/texts in August inviting me to various launches and promotions.
The retailers with manufacturer support have realsied that this is now the only way to achieve volume sales of new vehicles.

You are living in Spain aren't you, Dom ?
It was that way right through Francos time which were harder in many respects than they are now and have continued ever since, crisis or no crisis.
The size of some of the firework displays and pageantry in relation to the population of often tiny villages is mind boggling.
There is a lot of rivalry involved and they hate it for word to be going around that the neighbouring village put on a much better display than themselves.
You are clearly not integrated Dom,
, not to be fully aware when these events are coming up.The locals have them all ingrained into their minds from birth and are already dusting off and polishing up their outfits and equipment weeks before the occasions themselves arise.
