Going off topic a bit but has anyone seen all the prostitutes in the Guadalhorce Industrial estate in Málaga? It is full of black girls (maybe Nigerian) some dressed only in underwear during the day. The spanish truck drivers pick them up openly. Spaniards have always been big users of prostitutes, it's a cultural thing. In the old days Friday night was brothel night

You are totally out of order and wrong, you dont know what you are talking about.....how dare you suggest that in Spain that Friday night was brothel night,..................I find that an affront to myself and all my forefathers.
In our neck of the woods it was always Saturday night, brothel night....

Cheers

How can you speak for all the Spanish in Cómpeta, how can you know what they think? It's an area I have been visiting for 25 years, and it certainly isn't the place it used to be, the youngsters there are quite different from their parents. If you read the posts in the article in the Málaga papers, some decried the behaviour of the local thugs, whilst many backed them and expressed their intense dislike of Brits. It's nice to think you are loved by one and all, but I don't believe that to be the case.

Yes I read the comments too. About two-thirds were anti-Brit.

I live near Competa and have heard a myriad of different stories of that night but without exception ALL OF THEM WERE ALCOHOL FUELLED - I can't understand that you can't see that. The Spanish in Competa don't resent the British presence. What happens in each major UK city at the weekend then ... residents of Manchester resenting other residents of Manchester!!!!!! I'm not excusing what anyone did in either Competa or Majorca - it's truly awful and life shattering for so many - I'm just saying that without the consumption of EXCESSIVE alcohol, 9 times out of 10, arguments don't escalate to that level. In my opinion, and it is just that, MY OPINION, alcohol is the curse here, not the expats, the Spanish or the Bulgarian.

Co-incidentally, I was in Competa exactly a year ago this weekend, house hunting, and I know the region a little, and we have friends nearby.
The story has been told and of course it should never have happened, but you need to take your head out of the sand and look around, those 30 Spanish people involved in the incident may not be in such a minority after all.

Lumping people together through fear is a very dangerous thing ... think of all the many many instances of ethnic cleansing ... fear is the drug that fuels the flames.Okay, that's me, rant over. Enjoy your weekend one and all.

Relevant or not, maybe slightly, I’ve got my teenage grandson and two of his mates coming over this weekend. I’ve already started worrying, because they’re going to go out and enjoy themselves, and probably come back in the early hours, not probably, definitely.
Luckily, in this context, I live in a ‘British’ area and I feel safer when they’re out drinking in British bars. I know it’s a terrible thing to say, but that’s how I perceive it now, as opposed to 15 years ago.
I won’t be out with them in the early hours, I’m usually in bed by midnight. But there again, shouldn’t I be able to if I wanted to?

Very true,I have seen quite a few changes in 15 years also.
I remember going to fiestas and big celebrations back then and it was unusual to see the younger Spaniards in their late teens or early twenties drinking anything other than coca cola or soft drinks.
Now many of them seem to drink much more alcohol and get well drunk at botella parties and the like.

You said, "The Spanish in Competa don't resent the British presence." what I am saying is that a considerable number obviously do seem to resent your presence. They might not tell you to your face, but writing anonymously to the press they let fly a whole load of abuse. I know Frigiliana well, and I have never really met any anti Brit feeling there, but have read recently in a local forum of locals expressing their dislike of the guiris taking over the village, and how we think we are superior and look down on them all. I think reading the Spanish press, forums etc will give a better idea of what they actually do think of us.

The Spanish dinking culture has changed quite a lot, especially with the youngsters, but the Brit drinking culture is much worse by far.
