As for the Daily Mail, since so many of you act and say you would not dream of reading it, how do know what it contains?

I read most of the papers and they all have their own slant and it would be foolish to say that any are better than the others. Different perhaps appealing to different segments of society that's their job and in the case of the Mail it seems to work. They all get things wrong at times even the Guardian which some of you appear to love and many of its readers accuse of blatently censoring their comments. You pays your money and takes your chance or read them all for free on the net.

Not sure where many of you live in Spain but there has been a haemorrhage of people returning from our area. Of the remaining home owners many simply cannot afford to return to the UK and are literally stuck in Spain. Some of the lucky ones have a foothold in both countries and divide their time between them.

I remember before I came out here reading that 1 in 3 of all Brits had given thought to emigrating. I think the other statistic was that 75% usually return within 3 years.

Brits don't seem to transplant well.

It's the most quoted paper here, and whenever anyone gives a link to it, and you see the number of expat contributors, it would seem to be required reading for expats. Despite their apparent hate of the paper. I bet every time they do a similar article, the viewing figures shoot up, great for their advertising revenues.

A big chunk of expats seem to be classic Mail readers.

I think it`s because life is actually much easier in the UK , if Spain had UK weather it would be as popular as the outer Hebridies:rofl:

Whenever I see or hear the word Jordan, I realise its probably not the country but some silly tart with big tits, ten a penny these days, so I switch off or move on to something interesting.

Maybe I'm getting past it, but I remember when page three girls were first on the go and I never saw them as anything particularly exciting either, just boring tarts with big boobs instead of brains, and definitely not reason enough to go out and waste money on a crap news rag.

The problem for me never watching GB tv or reading GB newspapers is that it leaves me in the cold when it comes to such obviously important issues.

Wotcher Gray, how you doing?

Not reading UK newspapers is a great way to relax, I find.

I can see why you're an "oddity" now! ;) You must be one of the very few, most seem to need their daily fix of soaps and the other rubbish they watch.
Good for you.

All seems to be slowly improving:fingerscrossed:
For more than ten years I never read the papers in the UK and luckily I am blessed with a wife who hates soaps even more than I do so we hardly watched tv either. The hardest time we had was when our house sale was held up for a month, all our worldly goods were with the removal company, no work and all that we had was an old tv and bits of furniture that the clearance people were to take. I think that that month more than any other time made me realise that you really have to disengage your brain to watch the box on a daily basis. We watch more tv here to try and improve our Castellan at least the tv then has a purpose.

Oh please. I loathe soaps impartially, and shun the news as tho it had rabies, so I'm very much in your camp on this one.

Well theres plenty of cut, crowds, busy roads and maybe a few grey skies in Spain.
As in the UK, it all depends where you live, however one thing that crosses my mind almost every day in mid- winter when I pick a fresh orange of the tree, is that no way would I be doing this back in blighty.

True, very true. I wouldn't trade my bit of Spain for anywhere in the UK.

Like you, I pick my oranges, and soon it will be nispero time, and the dogs will be expecting their share.

As Gerald Durrel said of his time in Corfu, once the winter weather was past, almost every day was like a present waiting to be opened. I know exactly what he meant. Pretty soon it will be breakfast outside every day, with the sun shining, blue skies, and that same feeling of 'what will the day bring', just like that unopened present.

We didnt quite know how we would feel on our first trip back in 1.5 years or if we had changed at all.

What struck me most was the smallness of everything and bad roads.

Traffic jams.We wasted so much time stuck in traffic.

People werent smiling and the queues at supermarkets.

Everyone was busy going somewhere.

The weather was awful apart from one day.The clouds were so low.

We felt hemmed in. Silly to feel that way when Ive lived a lot of my life there and havent been gone long.

Shopping choice is amazing but there was somuch that we didnt really know what to choose so didnt actually buy a lot.Didnt even have an oggy pasty cos the smell of Ivor Dewdneys put us off.

People didnt dress well and some very very rude.

Were still suffering from the exhaustion of it all.

Lovely seeing family etc.but its great to be back where we feel free and can breathe again.
