We don't seem to be able to stop housebreaking either. Do we just make it legal then..or educate the thieves to stop doing it?

I dont think that bils point of view stands up to very close scrutiny in the cold light of todays world.
The only thing that will educate them into not doing it, is to ensure they can't benefit from it and suffer the full consequences of their actions,.... by which I don't necessarily mean chopping their arms of bil, as tempting as it may be.

I reckon my point of view ain't that bad.
First off, I didn't say that if a law can't be enforced absolutely, then to hell with it. What said was, that if a law can't realistically be enforced, then it makes a mockery of the law as a whole.
We don't do so badly with the enforcement of the law wrto housebreaking, murder et al. We except that it is a flawed system, but it's enforcement is seen as necessary by one and all.
So you plan to make it a criminal offence to have sexual relations with anyone under the age 18, even if their partner is also under 18.
To enforce that would require telling all those teens with raging hormones to remain sexually chaste, and frankly that just doesn't seem possible, sensible or practical.

I think the responses to this thread are quite disgusting to be honest and show more about the mental obsession of British people with paedophilia than any reality of what may or may not be hapening in Spain.
First of all, the age of consent really isnt related to paedophilia but certain people had to keep pushing in that direction, then all of a sudden the paedophilia experts appeared (they were the really worrying ones) and thirdly noone actually has any experience or stats/research in Spain at all, its all conjecture and overblown theories.
People should sort their own heads out.

The original question posted by Rotor was "What is the age of consent in Spain"
I think that has now been answered more than once and that this thread has now run its course.
If anyone wants to explore people's opinions on paedophilia further then I suggest you start a new thread in the Lounge.
I am closing this thread.
