Proof Kiwi rip-off housing!

Proof Kiwi rip-off housing!
I was looking at houses back in the UK and I found what would be labelled here as a great classic kiwi weatherboard home.
Guess what its less than 30k GBP. In Auckland they'd be selling that for 500k NZD!!

That has made my evening and further highlights how ripped off we are here.

Here you go - 3 bedroom home in Auckland for $25,000.
It is very well maintained, with a modern kitchen, 3 bedrooms and a good sized lounge with plenty of light.
The ceilings are charming and there is a new Coloursteel roof. The house has quality cream carpets and native timber floors.
There is a separate bathroom and toilet, an internal laundry and the house has a heat pump, burglar alarm and many other features.

It's the land that costs the money.

to be honest comparing a house in one country to another is never going to work there are lots more factors to take into consideration.
Yes the prices in Auckland particularly are ridiculous but as I have said previously its the idiots buying them at those prices that are causing the problems along with over seas buyers

You are right about the land, but one could easily put that wooden shack on a plot of land at home for less than 100K GBP.

My mum and dad lived on a site full of properly built log cabins with double glazing etc.
The new site owner is putting similar things to the above on there - basically big caravans and charging 140k GBP. That's in Bridlington.

The kiwi one is twice the size of the pommy one! Sounds more like rip-off Britain to me!

I hate to be annoying, but this debate is getting a little old and I don't think its constructive. A bit like the Batman franchise, its been done to death.

I wouldnt pay 140K GBP for that, especially as you can get some cracking semi-detached houses in Yorkshire for 140-150K.

However, I think the example you have shown is a little skewed. The house in the UK, is located in Cornwall and is for the house itself, as you are well aware. There are plenty of "house for removal" advertised here in NZ for similar or cheaper prices. You then have to factor in the cost of land, transporting it, having a foundation built etc etc.
400k is not going to get you a nice house on the beach in Takapuna. But it could get you a town house in Albany.

Davros, I understand your frustration. Getting on the housing ladder in Auckland must be very difficult.

I am no longer frustrated about the situation in Auckland - someone is playing a sick joke. I refuse to be a part of it (buying a house in Auckland) any further. My future once I am ready to settle will be elsewhere.
As for that house you displayed, looked at it before, it looks ok apart from the colour and the gated living in a prison bit.
Cheers.
