Citizenship is another answer yes but personally for most of us TIE fulfills our needs of residency. personally i have no need or wish to change my nationality.

That was my reasoning when i cancelled my residency and formally handed it in. Simple procedure when in Spain. Maybe OP could contact the consulate in UK for official advice on how to resolve this?

Maybe it should just be clarified that renting without correct licence etc hiding income from property rental is illegal. Simply allowing someone to use your property without payment isn't .
