As the original poster I can confirm that the CO granted 175, VIC started to send me emails asking when I would arrive and when I collected the visa sticker which went in my passport it was a 176 so...

Definitely. That's about what I paid for a months rent in England. The list that VIC have given me contains some VERY expensive places.

I'm not sure. The cheapest private room I could find was $440 a week. A dorm is around $180 a week.

I'm a metal fabricator. What's more they seem to have given me 175 instead of 176 which is even better! You can't work the system out at all.
