Depends on the town, in mine it is.

School buses have all been outsourced to save the school districts having to offer benefits like health insurance and holiday pay....it's all minimum wage stuff...

salaries are slightly higher here, but still not really onpar with California....

Doing the doodle maths, salary of around $110K with 5% down over 30 years you could afford a mortgage on around...

Running water...errr...that's about it...gotta pay extra for the school bus too...

but some towns aren't so bad, some are, got to pay per bag for rubbish pick up in mine for instance.

I've found it's about the same....on the surface it appears less in the US, but there's a lot more hidden taxes that catch up with you. Property taxes are proportionally a lot higher, taxed on buying...

I did a stint at a car parts manufacturer, they didn't have that requirement, they just hired temps to cover things. You only have to give a long notice if you were going to be gone for 2 weeks or...

I've a mate who used to work at HMV for years, he never had to give any more than a weeks notice for a holiday of a week, would have to give a few weeks notice if he wanted to take his whole years...

I haven't found that to be true....CoL is pretty much the same, car might be cheaper but the insurance/tax is much higher etc and no way has housing been cheaper here, rent up in Maine perhaps, but...
