Gosh, I thought I could do this within the UK in person - the same day or at least within a couple of days. I am aware I can't do this by mail.

Some have had to wait 20 weeks to get their passport renewed. It's disgraceful.

On the declaration form, it says "relationship of applicant to intended passport holder". Do I just put "self" or spell my name in full?

Couldn't agree more! If that could be proven, it would surely be evident that some law was being broken. After all, we are citizens of the United Kingdom.

Is it acceptable to HMPO to send my passport supporting documents from one addrress but have the renewed passport sent to another (that is different from the one on the application?

Charles, I totally agree with you! It is a nightmare that British expats should not have to deal with. The UK is treating its citizens abominably!

Maybe the delay is only with first passports or the renewing of those that expired a long time ago.

That is an amazing and excellent turnaround! It goes to show they do know how to process passports then - I was beginning to wonder! - so I don't know why there is such a delay with overseas expats'...

Good grief! Three weeks is terrible. I thought it took a week to get regular mail from the USA to the UK. How wrong I was!

I will definitely use "overnight" mail then - which takes 2-3 days to get...
