Its called charge backs and a lot of companies do it. I've heard stories where businesses, mainly small ones, will deliberately charge back items or services that you didn't buy or use simply to help...

That's absolutely right, it came across as being a little cold hearted towards the Walmart check out girl. A job I suspect that is taken out of necessity rather than aspiration.

Far be to me to say but I fear you're all being a bit hard on Clare and I detect a slight whiff of self-rightousness. I'm not suggesting she keep the money but within global neo-liberal societies...

Why not go back and offer to split it with them so you only pay $50.00 instead of the $100.00, I'm sure they'll go for that.
