Thanks for that John5655. It seems it's as I thought i.e. take of your CG allowance and then take your personal allowance of what remains and that's your taxable income .... unless I have read the HM...

I couldn't agree more. I was just hoping that someone might have dealt with a tax adviser that they could recommend. Trying to find one in the UK from Australia is not easy.

Could you tell me what is the best way to look for 'Lets'. What's available from the net looks to be very mediocre for the price asked and the so called "long lets' on the usual pages are not long....

Correction to my last.
Assurance Vie does not shield you from Wealth Tax but the first 750000 is free of Wealth Tax anyway and the rest gets hit for 0.55%.
