Re: House Sale?

I hear what you’re saying about the difficulty in setting a value and suspected that your home was larger than others in the area. I think you did the right thing given the information you...

Re: House Sale?

Hi,

Firstly I’d advise against providing a link to your home address on a public internet forum.

However, as you have, I can see that semi’s in your road were selling for £140K max in...

Re: GETTING AUS MORTGAGE

Interesting, this is not my experience in NSW. You may of course be talking about a different state.

In NSW, indeed lenders have experienced increased volumes in enquiries due to the recent rate...

Re: U.K Recession. Will Australia follow?

It's spin.
The Ozzie banks have had their fingers in the same pies as the UK banks have.
Raw numbers may be smaller, but the percentage on balance sheet is the same.

Was reading an article...

Re: leaving the grandparents and moving to perth..

Turn it around slightly.
You move to Perth and your son gains dual citizenship.
Being brought up in a family where emigration is seen as an option and having both Ozzie and UK passports and family...

Re: U.K Recession. Will Australia follow?

I'm just happy you're doing your bit for the balance of trade.
With Ballan's millions fying offshore to France, the country is surely screwed.
Cigar? Cuban?

If only you'd plumped for that...

Re: HiFX Beware

There will always be a better rate (or worse rate) than the one you exchanged at.
The best thing to do is forget about it once you have made the exchange and not dwell on the “if only I...

Re: sydney

Did US, Spain, Ireland, UK all tumble at the same time?
We're talking a 12 month spread!

Same as all countries with positive immigration & restrictions on building, UK included.

Re: Property & finance question

All fine and dandy until the ATO decide a few years down the line to have a crackdown on expat’s offshore assets. Cross reference their records with those of HMRC, UK banks & their offshore...

Re: U.K Recession. Will Australia follow?

It's a pity those running from the ASX at the moment don't share your optimism.

Oz buys from and sells into the global market place. No decoupling here.

Re: your children?

Sometimes I wonder if this line is just rolled out by parents wrestling with their own guilt about wanting to exercise their own dreams, whilst dragging their kids along for the ride.

Truth is...

Yes, you seem to have your head screwed on with regards to overpayments etc.
Good luck and enjoy your DIY!

Re: Can you change your mind after an offer has been accepted?

Yes, only offer 20% below in todays climate.
If you search on here several posters have posted news of sellers offering such large reductions in Perth.

The bad news coming out of the US this...

Re: Did anyone else feel like this?

The positive bit. Congratulations on going out there and realising your ambitions.

The negative bit from the anti-debt league. You’re only a “home owner” when you have paid off that...

Re: What would you do in my shoes

First of all congratulations. From what you have written you appear to have put down a deposit around the 250K mark when you bought your house (as you say "recently"). That takes some astute...

Re: repossed help

I guess I was hoping that as the housing authority would have their own infrastructure for doing all the repairs on their own homes that it would be simple to extend that to yours. Even if they sent...

Re: Oz: Perception of distance

I commute 3 hours a day in the UK and it's certainly high up there on my "better life" list to reduce this on moving to Oz.

Worries me that anyone complaining of a 3 hour commute in Oz though...

Re: BBC have been will we be on the tv???

Sounds like fun & better than sitting on your hands doing nothing whilst you wait to sell.

Do you think the exposure will help get your house sold or are you worried people will just go "that's...

Re: repossed help

Or do they class what they will and will not be responsible for?

Oz: Perception of distance

Found myself thinking about the perception of distances in Oz.

In the UK I live within 45 mins drive of one of the UK’s most vibrant seaside towns.
If someone told me they wanted to move to the...

Re: Sterling/Dollar Rates at recent high

In my opinion, the e-mail appears too much like he’s fishing for business.
Mainly I guess because the more people who transfer funds now the more his income stream is protected. I assume the...

Re: Tax credit over payment, Repaying from OZ ???

I do not have an issue with those who made a genuine mistake and did not realise they were being overpaid. I also feel sympathy for the amount of hard work some people have had to go through to put...
