Re: advice needed from those already in Oz

We moved here in May and what I'd add/agree with is:

Most rentals that are advertised are ready (or almost ready) for you to move in. They often seem to put in a date of when the rental will...

Re: Evidence of Identity

Thanks TiddlyP!

It looks like Bank Account, TFN and Medicare will now be OK. The tricky one looks to be the driving licence as we're travelling for 3 months and won't have a Queensland contact...

Re: Evidence of Identity

Is this true? Can anyone confirm it? It'd be fantastic if it is as it'll solve a lot of problems.

I've been through them, but couldn't find a great deal as to how people evidenced identity or...

Evidence of Identity

I've been trying to work out the order I should be doing things when I first arrive. The complication is I won't have a fixed address of my own as we intend to spend several months...

Re: Has anyone transfered their pensions themselves?

I believe 2) is essentially correct. Your Pension income in Oz is tax-free, and you can transfer your pensions with no Capital Gains tax if you do it within 6 months of arriving.

Note that your UK...

Re: Has anyone transfered their pensions themselves?

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like something I will leave till I've arrived in Oz and then organise it through my super.

And yes, I'm aware of the potential drawbacks like it being a one-way...

As the title says: has anyone done it themselves and if so how hard was it?

Just been quoted an eye-watering amount (£500+vat) for what must just be a form-filling exercise.

Re: Shipping Info....FAQ......PART 1

Fantastic info, thanks Invictia!

Are there any other items on the "automatic quarantine" list? For example I have some untreated oak coffeetables, outdoor sports gear, rusty tools(!),...

Re: Singapore stop over

Sorry to hijack your thread with another question, but...

We were thinking of doing exactly the same thing ourselves. However, it seems to add £100's to the flights. Is this right or am I doing...

Well, we put our flat on the market while waiting for our visa to come through. The visa has now arrived, but the flat is still for sale. :(

Re: ICAA or NIA?

You will need to renew your CIMA membership.

A letter of good standing is just a letter from CIMA saying you are a member and haven't broken any of their regs. If you are a CIMA member it just...
