Re: Foreign National marrying a Green Card Holder

I believe you're right, Rete. This is one of the reasons why a lot of GC holders who want to bring spouses to the US just wait until they can apply for citizenship before starting the petition...

Re: I just submitted my I-129f - what is the average time to actually get a visa?

I'm sorry Bill - unfortunately, USCIS doesn't care about your fiancee's job or her english skills. They are most likely to just ignore all the "extras" you sent - sure, they vouch for her...

Re: crossing the boarder USA Canda

Good question, that. Sometimes, I think it's just a matter of someone having pissed in their cornflakes (shredded wheat?) that morning ;)

I never get any trouble from either Canadian or US border...

Re: crossing the boarder USA Canda

That's a dangerous claim. If they have any suspicion about what you're bringing back into the US, they can have a look. Saying "no" isn't a guarantee you won't have issues.

As for the GC scans,...

Re: I just submitted my I-129f - what is the average time to actually get a visa?

Also note - you will receive a receipt from USCIS with some "target" dates (how long it takes to process that kind of case) thingie. It's about worth the paper it's printed on. :) That said, it...

Re: I just submitted my I-129f - what is the average time to actually get a visa?

That's the million dollar question.

Right now, California Service Center is working on petitions dated on or before March 2, 2006. Does this mean anything? No, not really.

A lot also depends...

Re: AOS Cover Letter

Yeah, see, this is why I just filled out all my forms, put them one after the other (with a post-it tab with the form number/document name on it), attached them with a clip, no cover letter, and...

Re: On CNN this morning: Visas delayed, and so on...?

I totally feel your pain.

The year we applied for our VERY simple 129F there was:

a) the shredding scandal at CSC
b) a 9 month wait for approval through NSC (our service center)
c) the...

On CNN this morning: Visas delayed, and so on...?

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/06/13/homeland.wedding.delays.ap/index.html

Interesting. Anyone hear about the "shelving" issue?

Re: Wife filed taxes "single"

Betcha the shirt he wore was striped. NEVER wear stripes with plaid.

Sheesh. When will people ever learn that this is a deportable offense? ;)

Re: I Screwed Up Bigtime!! Need Help

The problem is that "interim rule" actually appears a-plenty in immigration related documents - one for health care workers, one that deals with I-9... it's like saying the loophole is called...

Re: Marriage Interview Games

Marion,

I mean this as constructive criticism, and you are welcome to take it or leave it (and I mean that in the nicest possible way, I do.)

USCIS officers, interviewers, whatevers sometimes...

Re: Moving a truck load of stuff from can to usa

Consolidated shipment! Yes!

That's what I did. I couldn't remember the right term for it. Best decision I ever made - they moved the stuff for me, took care of things, plopped it in the right...

Re: Moving a truck load of stuff from can to usa

Hey kid. :)

I hired a moving company back home in Ottawa to move my stuff to Minnesota. I wasn't in a rush, so I had them find a shipment that was coming in my general direction. Piggy-backed on...

Hi! Hopefully someone with more experience will pop in here and give you some answers.

Re: Consequences of not filing I-751 in time

Hi ramNagab - fair enough. I will recommend that course of action to the person this concerns. Hopefully they will figure out what to do.

Thanks!

Re: Consequences of not filing I-751 in time

The only information I have found so far confirms the following things: If you fail to file the I-751 -

a) your status is terminated, you are now illegally in the...

Re: Consequences of not filing I-751 in time

I'm glad I'm not "smokin' somethin'", Ian. My main concern was whether or not, eventually, USCIS is going to send them a letter saying "hey, you dropped your adjustment, time to get your butt outta...

Consequences of not filing I-751 in time

Theoretical (that is not "theoretical", if you catch my meaning) Question:

Resident alien forgets to file I-751 for self and child. Conditional GC expired in November. Adjusted from K1/K2...

Re: my AOS interview today

From what I have been seeing on these boards in the last few years, I'd say it happens. Things get misplaced, lost, or not forwarded on time. Hopefully they will all sort it out soon!

Hopefully...

Re: entering US with Re entry permit

I guess it's all in the wording, right? If you come in on the VWP, and you're not admitted, then you can't be "removed" since you were never "admitted" in the first place?

Re: entering US with Re entry permit

Oh, I totally agree with you (I should say I totally defer to your lawyerly knowledge). It was the wording that made me giggle.

Hell Week is kicking my butt, apparently. Have some lemonade! :)

Re: entering US with Re entry permit

Heh. Maybe it's because I'm tired, or because I'm fond of "wording" gags, but this entire statement amuses me greatly in that "frying pan versus fire" sort of way.

Re: 485 interview timing - reason to worry?

I wouldn't ask for a rescheduling. I'd miss the wedding. This is way too important... not to mention that if stuff doesn't get filed in the right spots, you could end up with a denied case for...
