It took me nearly 5 months to find a job in Calgary, that is with over 300+ resumes sent out. Take it from me it's no easier here.

Know exactly how you feel. Ours took about 4 weeks to get the visas then we drove down to the border to activate them.

I too was working in UK government before I came out to Canada (Calgary), it is extremely hard to get a job here as it is mostly unionized and they tend to employ Canadians.

You have to make an appointment - about 6 - 8 week wait at the moment. We just wanted to get things finalized. Maybe we were unlucky but we still landed which is why we went!
