The Ross Family have 'landed'
A three hour drive down Highway 2 to Carway and Montana, passports handed over to US Customs who were very friendly, a quick 10 minutes later then back to the Canadian side to be met by surly and miserable border guards.
We were scolded for not going up to Immigration in Calgary and then waited a very anxious 15 minutes whilst he wandered off with all our paperwork. We signed on the dotted line and were sent on our way. No 'Welcome to Canada' no nothing but we smiled anyway.
Luckily we missed the rush as we left four more carloads turned up clutching precious documents to their chests.
But we are now permanent residents!

A huge official "WELCOME TO CANADA" from us, well done !
It looks like we will be following in your footsteps sometime in March when we get our passports back unless we do it in Calgary, maybe we should look into that.
Do you happen to know if you can just turn up to land and the Immigration office in Calgary or will we need an appointment ?

Hi Murrin
You have to make an appointment - about 6 - 8 week wait at the moment. We just wanted to get things finalized. Maybe we were unlucky but we still landed which is why we went!
Good luck with whatever route you decide to take.

Yeah im with you on landing at an official port of entry...a waiting time of 6-8 weeks is just too long when all we have to do is spend a day travelling to and from a border to land....we have all waited long enough on this.

What a relief to be able to officially call yourself 'Permanent Residents'. It might not mean much to an outsider but in our world it means the end of a long road of beauocratic paper trails and nail-biting lengthy waits. Congratulations and may you have all you hoped for for your life in Canada.

Congratulations we have both now finally beome PR's. Though we were lucky with both sides of border, US side and Canadian side, all very friendly and Canadians welcomed us and joked with us. Though they did retake our photos and I received my PR card and husband not, as his photo was not correct!! He went to immigration office last week with new photo and now has to wait again for his card.

You are so right, I skipped into work on Monday full of the joys of getting PR and the only person who really understood was a fellow ex-pat who had also just recently got his PR.
Sigh!
