I have heard similar feedback from a friend, that France may be a better and cheaper option for family life.

Totally unclear then ... as usual with UAE administration.

My UAE Labour Department says 'unlimited', which will superceed anything on the contract I originally signed with my employer. Looks like...

My contract with the employer states '2 year contract, then proceeding indefinately'.

My UAE labour contract says 'unlimited'.

I think it may be worth asking, as 2 months pay is serious money -...

I was given 30 days notice (17 days ago). I haven't received anything in writing yet.

They have offered to keep my visa open until 30th April, and an NOC if I find a new position.

After eventually finding the labour office, I was able to get a copy of my official contract stamped by the minisry of labour, however immigration insisted that I must provide the original to support...

I was allowed a dispensation for my wife and famly, who are now fully sponsored. Unfortunately the same 'cannot' be done for the maid.

Does anyone have some advice on getting hold of the Dubai labour card/ contract?

I received my visa on 5th October. Two weeks (inshallah) to wait for my labour card ... nothing has arrived yet....

Just popped down to the naturalisation dept for a few hours of aggravation, and the family will be fine, but no visa extension for the maid, as they will not allow it until my wife has a visa too.

I finally got my visa through on the 1st October 2008, hooray ... however my Labour Card has yet to arrive.

I therefore cannot sponsor mywife and kids who have only 2 weeks to go on their visit...

£30 per document at the Foreign Office
£27 per document at the UAE consulate
£15 per document lawyers fee.
+ train to London, day off work etc. etc. etc.

Hard to take for a Yorkshireman!
