Re: Is it really better in Canada?

No-one is "moaning" about online shopping and the internet, simply noting the things that are better in the UK and the things that are better in Canada, which is what the topic was about.

Re: Is it really better in Canada?

I largely agree.

I try to live by the philosophy that I'd rather regret something I've done than something I've not done. In other words, I'd rather give it a go and fail than not give it a go at...

Re: Money Money Money....

They do, and they pay commission on the transactions of 2-3%. Unless they have a Santander One account.

Re: Money Money Money....

Not directly specific to the questions, but a wee tip I found useful on the subject of credit.

I got myself a Post Office credit card while I was still in the UK. They don't charge commission on...

Re: Is it really better in Canada?

I get your point re the size of Canada but that's a poor example. It's not at all uncommon to order goods from around Europe and expect fast, efficient and affordable delivery. Canada is one...

Re: Is it really better in Canada?

You're right, the technology itself isn't significantly different, but there's definately a slower uptake in Canada and poorer use of technology compared to the UK. I don't think it's that consumers...

Re: Is it really better in Canada?

Fair point. I tried to qualify my opinion by referring to "my Canada" and "my UK", appreciating that I've not experienced the full range of either.

Having said that, I think for the average,...

Re: Is it really better in Canada?

Although there are many people who genuinely prefer the UK to Canada once they've had the opportunity to experience both, I find that many of those who end up dissappointed simply had over inflated...

Re: Niagara-on-the-Lake/St Catherine's??

Love it. We had intended on moving to the GTA but we came here for a job and consider ourselves lucky :)

Re: Niagara-on-the-Lake/St Catherine's??

Two chain ones? There's the Galaxy cinema, is there another one I've not seen yet? I've only been here 4 months so I'm still figuring things out :)

There's also the BookShelf...

Re: Niagara-on-the-Lake/St Catherine's??

Ikea's a 30 minute drive to Burlington, Costco a 20 min drive to Kitchener.

When I suggested that Guelph had all the facilities and amenities you might expect I was thinking principally of...

Re: Canadian IT Hub? Toronto?

I tried lots of networking routes before I came out. I connected with people through LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com) who work in my area, asking if they were in a position to offer advice. One or two...

Re: Niagara-on-the-Lake/St Catherine's??

Y'know, I have no idea. I've bought some lovely fish in Zehrs, and I'm guessing the farmer's market downtown may have some, but I can't say I've come across a fishmonger yet.

Re: 8 Weeks in Cambridge, Ontario

I work in the University of Guelph and get three weeks, plus two days "discretionary leave" (this is basically another two days vacation). I consider myself lucky :)

Re: Niagara-on-the-Lake/St Catherine's??

Guelph is great. It's a lovely University, with a vibrant campus and a good reputation. As a city, Guelph is a lovely place too. It's quite an "arty" city (lots of artists, writers etc.), and is...

Re: Canadian IT Hub? Toronto?

I'd more or less echo all of that. I was fortunate enough to land an IT job at the University of Guelph shortly before we were due to fly out. Aside from all the personal / lifestyle benefits,...

Re: moving to ontario

Student's have been back for two weeks, and it's been fine so far. I honestly think people here have such a different benchmark for what's considered "rough" or "riff-raff". Maybe it's my Glasgow...

Re: moving to ontario

I can only speak for Guelph, which I moved to 4 months ago, and I absolutely love it.

To give a little context, I'm a 33 year old guy with a wife and two girls aged 5 and 7. I grew up in...

Re: Which School Grade in Calgary

We're going to have a similar problem with our eldest who will have completed Year 2 before we leave but would be going into Grade 2 in Canada, effectively repeating a year.

Having spoken to her...

Re: why did you want to leave the uk?

It's all very well saying you should be motivated by the positives of Canada rather than the negatives of the UK (pull instead of push), but in reality it's likely to be a combination of both for...

Re: Notarised documents & rejection..?

I think the confusion is over who the new instructions apply to. It seems to me that the new instructions relate to people applying via the new method, and I suspect the reason that they ask you to...

I don't think so, I'm certainly not expecting it back.
