Re: ATM usage with UK bank card

Thank you arcnet. I've obviouslly been far too trusting of Wise. I started using them 8 or more years ago when they did seem like a breath of fresh air: good rates and transparency.

Now it seems:...

Re: ATM usage with UK bank card

Just to clarify: The Wise euro-deminated debit card for a E40 withdrawal came in at E41.30 using MB.

Re: ATM usage with UK bank card

I'm getting muddled. Wise is not a UK bank card. (I also have a Halifax Clarity, which I used a few mins ago in a MB with no charges.) Maybe the issue is Wise (though I'm sure it's not Wise taking...

Re: ATM usage with UK bank card

Macliam I am using a Wise debit card. I don't think Wise slap unannounced charges on you, and I have used in numerous other countries without extra charges. It is the operator of the ATM that is...

ATM usage with UK bank card

It seems many are taking an extra fee. Some do it without even warning you they will charge a fee, which seems shockingly dishonest. Spain started doing this a couple of years ago (with a warning) so...

Re: Toulon-Corse ferries

I'll answer my own question: no (as rather expected). Information came from another source.

Toulon-Corse ferries

It's a long shot, but does anyone know if you can sleep in your vehicle on the overnight ferries?

Re: Farmers markets?

You're quite right, macliam - I understated my case. I shopped for 15 years in Tavira market, and there were many little stalls where small scale producers just brought in whatever they'd picked/cut....

Re: Lisbon gentrification

I think the big change is that 40 years ago large numbers of people in Lisbon were paying tiny rents in controlled tenancies. At some point I'm sure that all changed.

Re: Lisbon gentrification

Lisbon was an amazing place in the 1980s. I don't need to be told about the poverty then. Wonderful tascas and restaurants. Times move on - for most Lisboetas the present must be a great improvement....

Re: Certificado de Matricula

You need to have proof (acceptable to PT) that the car was destroyed. A friend had an old (PT reg) wreck destroyed in Spain unofficially and the PT authorities will pursue him for the rest of time...

Re: Capital Gains Declaration

Re the initial inquiry, I paid a local accountant E150 to do my CGT when I sold up in Portugal. That was 2.5 years ago, and no problems so far. The accountant was recommended by my estate agent. At...

Re: "Cars are very expensive to buy in Portugal"

I bought (a long time ago) a 2 or 3 year old car from the Toyota dealer in Faro. So:
(a) it's delivered to you with a pretty good background
(b) someone else has taken the hit of initial...

new covid travel restrictions entering PT

I saw in Correio da Manhã yesterday that everything is changing from Dec 1st. Now a negative test will be needed, even crossing by land from Spain. Will they be stopping every vehicle on the bridge...

Re: Ginja

And if the original was ginga, the diminutive would be ginguinha - no softening of the 'g'.

Re: Ginja

It now seems ginginha is a very modern internet based term: Ginginha Liqueur (with fruit) 700ml. £11.09.

Enough time wasted on this tonight.

Re: Ginja

Massive red herring - I don't think ginga is the original. It was always ginja, hence affectionate derivative ginjinha.
