Congrats on opting for Melbourne. I do love Sydney but I'm happy here.

In the summertime we had huge problems getting a place because of the competition - we were about to resort to haggling UP...

Good luck - fingers crossed.

I had been looking for a month before I arrived, then another month here. The first two/3 interviews were all telephone and the only face to face one's were with...

Re: Renting application forms; and making it stand out

No wonder - we've been inundated with calls from all the places we saw over the weekend - I think you've summed it up. Good news for most of us I guess!

Re: Renting application forms; and making it stand out

True - the place is empty at the moment so they could fix it right now if they were that inclined... perhaps they just want someone to rent as-is. (The floorboards also need replacing though, which...

Re: Oz Wages

220 a week gets two of us 700 square feet about 30 mins (by train) outside of Melbourne. It's a shoebox and doubling that might enable us to get something livable in the same or similar area. I would...

Re: anyone up for english cod in melbourne

"Slight" exaggeration. I think wanting a piece of home is normal for anyone in any country from any country. It's not like someone is asking for Eastenders, Corrie, Crappy weather, miserable people...

Re: Oz Wages

I've arrived in Melbourne and shocked at how expensive things are here. Clothes, food etc. I'm hoping that around the same figure covers myself and my partner. I would be very cautious about raising...

Austin Tex-Mex is a winner, have yet to sample El Paso..

As far as Dallas goes, I've heard it's not that great to live, unless you want the expensive downtown nights out lifestyle. Austin is just...

Re: Greencard winner: advice needed
