Re: best place to validate visa from Au?

The South Island of NZ is well worth a visit if you've not been before [I found the North Island a bit boring] and you're planning on going in late Spring, Summer or early Autumn. You can fly from...

You have to do NYE in Sydney mate! Really good atmosphere, and the fireworks...

Re: HSBC Banking

Unless you have a HSBC Premier account I think you'd just be treated as a new customer, i.e. you close your UK account and open one in Oz.

For existing customers, banks can do their own internal...

Re: The Official Loners Thread

Adelaide has far better weather; Melbourne is a bit like the Crowded House song 'Four Seasons in One Day' (not 'I Feel Possessed' in case you're wondering ;) )

Re: The Official Loners Thread

G'Day Pompeyblonde!

Blooming heck - Sydney after Adelaide will be like London after Lands End ;) I remember the first time I was in Adelaide, being dropped off in the 'city centre' then asking a...

Re: Credit cards

As a former credit card underwriter, I disagree.

Attributes like age, employment and occupation are factors (but very minor compared with credit history or lack thereof). If you check on the...

Re: move to Penrith way - West of Sydney

I rent close to the CBD - which suits, as I don't need a car (so saves a bit of cash). When I moved across I sold my place in the UK, and I was planning on buying, but the interest rates are just far...

Re: move to Penrith way - West of Sydney

Re: move to Penrith way - West of Sydney

If you did fancy the blue mountains it might be worth looking for jobs (depending on what you do) based at parramatta or homebush (as quite a lot of big companies have offices out that way)

Re: move to Penrith way - West of Sydney

It does get very hot out there in the summer, and you don't benefit from the sea breezes. Some of the inner west suburbs might be worth looking at, e.g. Leiichhardt, Petersham, Marrickville, etc (not...

Re: Credit cards

Try again?? Repeating one of my previous comments....
As a permanent resident you can still skip the country in the same way as a temp resident, therefore don't see the difference in 'comeback'...

Re: Credit cards

Well, they'd take out a CCJ (county court judgement) which would really damage your UK credit rating, and you'd maybe get a telling off if you went back to the UK. :sneaky:

Re: Credit cards

I see where you're coming from, however having PR doesn't mean you're going to go out and get a mortgage or indeed be any less likely to skip the country if you get into debt. But they still let you...

Re: Idea's on where to live - All suggestions welcome!!

Margaret River is lovely and has a great climate! The wine is also very good! ;) Unfortunately, job wise it is limited.

WA is a long way from the rest of Oz (which doesn't bother some folk), but...

Re: Credit cards

NAB do I think (or used to); I've got one with ANZ and I'm on a 457.

The rediculous thing is its easier to find a bank that will give you a mortgage on a temp visa than it is to find one that will...
