Re: The Great Australian Property Swindle

Good question..

In any other field I'd try and gauge the 'general consensus' from those considered experts (those who write in the press etc). My thinking being that a general consensus approach...

Re: Liverpool V Chelsea 25th Apr

If they're opening on Wednesday morning for the footy I'd assume it's the Man U v Milan game.

Liverpool/Chelsea isn't until Thursday morning.

Re: Drought

Totally agree with the comment about 'billion dollar band aids'. When it was announced that the farmers were getting more subsidies none of the politicians seemed at all embarrassed that they'd...

Re: Pommie Bastard, Mike Stanton and Arkon

Agreed. The same goes to those who base their decision to emigrate on hearing that 'Australia is great, the beaches are wonderful and everyone's laid back'.

We're both talking extremes, and I...

Re: Pommie Bastard, Mike Stanton and Arkon

Maybe some people did cancel - and maybe that was no bad thing for those people. Pommie Bastard was in his prime when we were thinking about whether to come to Oz or not.

He forced people to think...

Re: Why do some settle better than others??

- Luck
- Sense of perspective
- Knowledge
- A 'want' to live in Oz (different from a want to leave the UK)
- Preparation
- An ability to know when to listen to Mike Stanton, Arkon et al..
-...

Re: Is working in Australia " laid back "?

I'd agree with this badge.

I work for an IT company on St Kilda Road and I'm working longer hours than I did in the UK but I find the work environment is more 'straight up'. There seems less of...

Re: Driving Licence 25 yrs UK no points.10 weeks on Gold Coast ?

Not entirely sure whether you were agreeing or disagreeing with me here....

I'd agree with your last sentence (assuming you weren't being sarcastic) and I'll pick 'the drivers' being to blame....

Re: sun creams

..and it doesn't block UVA rays either, that's why you won't get it in Australia.

Look for 'broad spectrum', which blocks UVA and UVB

Re: Driving Licence 25 yrs UK no points.10 weeks on Gold Coast ?

10 years driving in the UK without any points - already got 'more than one' point on the licence in just over 2 years here in Oz.

The worst drivers I've seen here are the ones that are under the...

Re: our blind date with OZ!!

So let me get this straight....

...you're moving to a country that you've never so much had a holiday in, all because you've been 'told' it's great?

You must be absolutely crazy! Have you...

Re: Trafalgar Day

Maybe that's why the Pies play in the same colour shirts as Newcastle FC in England.

See, this stuff's important!

Re: Trafalgar Day

Little 'on-topic' here (sorry) but does anyone know if there is anything happening in Melbourne?

There's loads of roads named after 'Nelson', 'Victory', 'Hardy' and I've wondered whether the...

Re: What house will you buy?

We had the same sentiments exactly.

There's no doubting that you can get an awful lot (spacewise) for your money if you buy a mansion a la macca's. But when we were looking around them, none of...

Embassy (not the ciggies)

I'm currently a PR in Aus so assume that the British Embassy is still the place to call on should I need help overseas.

If/when I gain Australian citizenship do I also acquire the right to help...

Re: Which Ozzie words took you the longest to get use to?

I mentioned the 'Pakis' thing to a Aussie bloke and explained that in the UK you just can't say that in public, and I mentioned the racist connections.

He said, 'Aaah look mate, if I didn't like...
