Re: Are kids in the US mollycoddled?

No, not the anti-socials, but the fact that English teenagers are less ill at ease than their US peers of the same age with travelling, relying on their own ways and means to do things and they are...

Re: Feds rain Liberty Dollar offices, seize everything

Companies at least have something of a public profile to advertise such treatment by the Fed Govt. What about their use of Eminent Domain on private citizens then?

Re: Are kids in the US mollycoddled?

True but whats interesting is the reaction by Americans of leaving school at that age. Fact is, English 16yr olds are more socially comfortable and secure than their US counterparts. In general, yes....

Re: Are kids in the US mollycoddled?

She's run off her feet right? You see this don't you? Some of my kids' friends' parents never stop from one activity to the next. We let ours have one (one) extra-school activity. Otherwise they just...

Re: Hardest Part About Living In Another Country

Perhaps, for me, its a llittle easier because I married an American and she intrduced me to America in the first place. On the other hand, as a mixed-nation couple (just invented a new term?) we...

Re: What does Boxing Day mean to you?

For years I just let it fall by the wayside as I had assimilated totally into the US culture, but in recent years I have been gradually re-kindling the day. Because my own kids are at the "Christmas...

Re: Americans and their Revolution...

Yeah, and recently she's been getting really fat and a bit psycho but the trouble is, she knows where you live and who you hang around with and you're just dreading the day she waits outside the pub...

Re: Thanksgiving jumpers

Oh, come on - they're smashing!

Admittedly, its hard to find Winter Solstice decorations and things so we do our own, (as in days of old).
Typically a fire-wheel in the driveway, rooftop bell...

Re: Slightly daft feeling!

Anything you would wear if you were on a first date or going out for a special evening is probably ok.

Things to not wear:
Tuxedo
Scuba gear
Red clown nose
A "T" shirt with "I Hate America"...

Re: Hardest Part About Living In Another Country

I think you have it there - its not at all easy, granted. But how you deal with it makes all the difference doesn't it?
I find its often too easy to sink into a homesick rut, sometimes it blindsides...

Re: Deer Season has started

Even the deer population - you are correct, and you should be with your experience of this. Some don't realise that the deer need to be hunted or they will overpopulate (dirty buggers) and then later...

Re: Deer Season has started

Do you think it worthwhile suggesting to your girlfriend's "Uncle Ahab" that he up-grade his arsenal to include this type of equipment? I admittedly only hunted once, but found it very useful in...

Re: If one more of my colleagues...

They did first remove the wires, lights and alarms right? Otherwise it might explain the dog's confusion.

Re: If one more of my colleagues...

Just a suggestion:
Calmly get up from your desk, walk over to the window and open it.
Return to where your "buddy" is sitting and start pushing him towards it.
Office chairs move pretty easily,...

Re: Deer Season has started

All over this great wooded land, mullet-headed, goateed, wad-chewing neanderthals in day-glow orange will be dropping, perforated out of the trees.

Re: Are kids in the US mollycoddled?

Of course, we had it tough!

We'd get up out of bed at 3:30, 4 hours before we went to sleep. Lick the road clean with our tongues. Eat a bag of hot gravel and then work 26hrs a day in a mine and...

Re: Are kids in the US mollycoddled?

I think so. With the "Daycare/2 job" vicious circle being so prevalent here, there is a serious guilt trip going on.
So you have kids spending a lot of time in daycare/after/pre school programs...

Re: New to Web Site

Prior to your flight leaving, wait by the nearest runway & have the cats covered in a thick layer of industrial adhesive ("liquid nails" works well).
As a plane with BA markings begins its take-off,...
