Talking Re: Deer Season has started

My OH likes to hunt deer too, so the answer is easy:

Most men are full of testosterone, and they are meant to hunt wild animals, to keep their family fed. It's natural for a men to hunt down a deer, it's not natural for a man to be sat behind a computer all day (sorry Ray).

If deer weren't thinned out, they would eat up that lovely garden you like to grow Dee.

There would be so many deer, that it would be unsafe to drive on the roads, particularly at night.

Disease amongst deer would become rampant. They would become weak and diseased, with not enough food to eat.

It fills freezers with venison; meat not injected with antibiotics.

It gets the men out of the way during the big shopping season, between Thanksgiving and Xmas.

All over this great wooded land, mullet-headed, goateed, wad-chewing neanderthals in day-glow orange will be dropping, perforated out of the trees.

Hunting (Rifle) season has been open up here for a couple of weeks now. Not having such a good time this year as I've only took one 8 point whitetail.

Have to admit I find the hunting fascination interesting. the gf's family (from MN) like a bit of hunting and keep the freezer stocked and have deer jerky, which is all good and fits well into my mind. The bt I dont get though is how her Uncle has been hunting a "19 point buck" or something for 2 years with a Bow and Arrow but not yet managed to hit him even though he has seen him a few times...

Why the hell would you use a bow and arrow if you just want to feed people throughout the year? If he had a gun, would it take him years to hunt this thing? Confuddled....

Do you think it worthwhile suggesting to your girlfriend's "Uncle Ahab" that he up-grade his arsenal to include this type of equipment? I admittedly only hunted once, but found it very useful in bringing down a pretty elusive bull-squirrel.
The dogs are optional, but do help to keep away other hunters.

They're not all like that. Besides providing a source of healthy meat (low-fat, antibiotic free), deer hunting is practiced by all types of people. This includes young girls, professional men, teenage boys, and of course Bubba. Many times it is a family-event that includes dads, sons, brothers, uncles, etc. It is an American tradition.

In my family, my brother used to go with my uncles because my dad didn't get into deer hunting. He was into other types of hunting when he was young....raccoon, duck, quail, etc., etc......and loved his dogs like they were his children.

I have even been hunting (a girl). I went duck and quail hunting with my dad and grandpa when I was 5! I've also been 'coon hunting with my brother and dad when I was a teenager. I've been frog giggin' and fishing (for fish and snapping turtles) so many times I can't count them all. I learned gun safety and how to shoot a gun on my 5th birthday. I received my own gun when I turned 13, which is when I also learned how to clean them properly. Target shooting on our weekend farm was a family event in addition to riding horses, gathering walnuts, picking apples, picking blackberries and raspberries, etc.

Sorry, I digress. The point of this was supposed to be that deer hunting is just one of many American traditions that benefits everyone, even the deer pop. as a whole.

There may be some restriction on how you can kill such a mature deer. In many states, you have bow season (you can only kill with bow & arrow), gun season, and musket(sp?) season (you can only use old fashioned ball and powder guns). You have limits on the number of deer you can bag and you have turn in your "tag" to approved representatives so they can document your take.
