agreed, your best bet is to outline what convictions you have to an agent in confidence and ask their opinion on whether the type of conviction/offense may affect your visa path.

you'll need a power adapter for it, but most of the technologies are the same - Only thing I would say is they're pretty cheap so if you get pushed for weight/space it might be one of the things to...
