Re: Is this an impossible travel situation?

Given it's a fresh thread and a funeral is involved, I'd be on the phone with the British consulate first thing tomorrow instead of relying on website wording. Dual citizens usually aren't the first...

Re: E2 Spouse - Green Card?

Having work authorization definitely makes you more attractive to employers because they can hire you immediately, but it doesn't automatically create a green card path. Most employment based green...

Re: L1A & L2 Visa Experience / Timeline

Not sure if anyone is still following the thread, but my comment is still here. The criminal history part is what terrifies most people with L visas, especially spouses 😭 My wife also had old...

Re: Renouncing US Citizenship Fee Reduced

That's a pretty significant reduction. The paperwork, tax compliance and long term consequences are still the complicated part, but dropping the fee from over two thousand dollars removes one of the...

Re: Renouncing US citizenship

This is definitely one of those decisions where the tax side matters as much as the immigration side. With a net worth around that level, I'd want a cross border tax specialist involved before...

Re: Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver of Ineligibility Application

Very old thread now, but waiver timelines have always been one of the hardest things to predict. The fact you'd already received a waiver and visa before would have given me some optimism, but...

Re: Anyone over in Oz with 804 pending

Yeah the 804 queue is basically a time capsule at this point sadly. The bridging visa part is usually fine if you stay in Australia, but leaving without the right travel permission can screw things...

Re: Best agent for contributory parent visa

15 years waiting time is honestly brutal, damn. I’d avoid random “migration agents” from Facebook groups and go with someone MARA registered who actually does parent visas weekly, not student...

Re: Electrician Special Class Practical assessment

The practical is still pretty similar from what I’ve heard, just more focused on Aussie standards and safe isolation stuff. They love testing if you panic under pressure lol. Practice fault finding...

Re: Spain decides to make English official language

That sounds like a massive change for the country. I saw some headlines about it earlier but didn't think they'd actually go through with it. It’ll be interesting to see how it works in practice.

Re: UK eSim While In USA

The verification SMS issue is usually down to the carrier's roaming agreements rather than the phone itself. If you're looking for a stable way to receive those UK codes while sitting in the US, you...

Historical fx exchange rates

Does anyone know of a source of practical historical GBP/AUD exchange rates?

I used to use Westpac because they showed commercial rates a few percentages below interbank rates. This was more...

Re: UK pension transfer

Just to note that you can make a transfer of a SIPP yourself (at zero cost) to your smsf as I did some years ago.

Re: UK pension transfer

If you make the maximum non concessional transfer of $100k there is no ATO tax. And obviously if your UK taxable pension is below the Oz tax threshold there is no tax to pay.

Re: UK pension transfer

Once transferred to a super fund the investment returns are not defined. So you could lose out or gain by transferring.
The tax advantage means that when you draw the pension in Oz it is not taxed...
