The first payment I received was for an odd amount. I guess is was pro-prated from my birthday to the regular payment date. The second and subsequent payments were for my regular monthly amount.

Residence for tax purposes is not the same as residence for immigration purposes. Just one example is that you can be a permanent resident of Canada, but never live in Canada, if you live overseas...
