Just take out zero excess insurance before you leave for your holiday. Its relatively expensive

Air fares are pretty cheap right ow. We've just booked returns for May 26 for 1600 quid with Air NZ and Turkish airlines via Singapore
I've seen some fares as low as 1400+ depending on your dates.

Ok. Quick breakdown of my conversation with a colleague who is doing what you're looking at.
He said you initially come on a visitor visa. You can stay for 6 months, you then have to leave for a day...

No, you don't have to live in New Zealand to open a bank account here. You can apply for an account online while you're still overseas and then activate it when you arrive.
