Re: Property investment - North Carolina?

But many have bought in Durham County only to meet the same issues coming down the pike, so to speak. Reassignment for some DCounty schools, water issues, and continued new builds despite a local...

Re: Property investment - North Carolina?

Just my two pence, of course.

But really, look at the lack of city planning in the Triangle, how ridiculously burdened the infrastructure is (b/c there wasn't planning for this level of growth)...

Re: Mitt is out.

I disagree. Especially in the other Bible Belt, Southern Cali. Costa Mesa, etc. Crystal Cathedral, Jan & Paul, Morris Cerullo (now in Charlotte, NC with his 90 acre 'City of Light'). Can't forget...

Re: Property investment - North Carolina?

To each her own, but if my DH said we were returning to the UK (or anywhere in the world, frankly) today, I'd be packed in an hour, including the three kids' stuff. Been here nearly a year and once...

Re: Was this you at Schlotzsky's today?

Thanks very much!

And NCPenguin, as far as 'not living in a village anymore', seems I have moved to a village.;) Too many subdivisions with 'Village' in the name, imo, and we're in one of 'em. ...

Re: Was this you at Schlotzsky's today?

We were not only at Crabtree at the weekend, it was prom night on one of our visits. Interesting to see the dresses and tuxes. Crabtree has shops we don't in Cary (like j.crew) so it's worth it to...

Re: Was this you at Schlotzsky's today?

We've been to Life & Science Museum five times. Six for my son, as his Cary daycamp (he's tracked out currently) went there as well. In fact, they bus the children only to Raleigh or Durham for all...

Re: Was this you at Schlotzsky's today?

If you're confident about your demise in Cary, that's a bigger problem than a shite toasted deli sandwich.

Re: The land of contrast

Ah, no worries. Though not sure about 'desert canyons' in SF?

Yes, Aspen does explain it. I saw Neil Diamond walking around Aspen with his wife, many years ago. He didn't want to talk, though.

Re: Was this you at Schlotzsky's today?

It was our first time trying the place. I thought if I saw two Union Jacks on a Cooper in the queue, that was a good sign.

It wasn't very good. Nothing tastes good here, though. The London Fish...

Re: The land of contrast

I hope that isn't SF! When we lived there, it wasn't anything like the So Cal madness.

Please tell me SF isn't the land of siliconed people and no souls...

Was this you at Schlotzsky's today?

I was in the queue for drive thru at Schlotzsky's deli in Cary, NC today around noon. Ahead of us was the coolest blue mini Cooper. Two Union Jacks in the rear window, registration read, 'BLIMIE'....

Re: Need advice, holiday home home in San Diego

Do you want to be near the ocean or inland?

$300k isn't going to go far in Del Mar, La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, or Coronado, for example. Though you could make a mint next year when the...

Re: Another school gripe

North Carolina.

We received another note in the bookbag today, to support the previous note about dropping off one's child and collecting him/her: 'Do not get out of your car. We are all in a...

It is year round schooling here. He didn't have much of a break coming from England to here, unfortunately. But he'll have a good bit of time off soon.

I have offered what I can to his teacher. ...

Re: Not impressed with son's Kindergarten teacher

I would hope basic skills would be taught in PRE school. Not in daycare, that's emphasising childcare, not academic preparedness.

Pre Kindergarten, at least in NC, boasts about the basics learned...

Re: Another school gripe

Define 'all the unimportant things' that are going to make me 'sick'.

My 5 year old is not my sounding board, if that's what you're assuming. For all he knows, school is wonderful, he gets to do...

Re: Another school gripe

Ooh, I like the 'wait at front door' option. But I don't think the school offers that. They make a big deal about 'independence' and not lifting your child into your arms, etc.

But asking him...

My son starts Kindergarten...

Re: Not impressed with son's Kindergarten teacher

I will say something for sure. The rule book she sent home is full of typos as well. And one of the objectives for the children is to acquire an 'understanding and use of good English'.

Re: Not impressed with son's Kindergarten teacher

I agree, but having heard 'BirmingHAM' all weekend (in Michigan for a wedding), I have issues with pronunciation of English names. I've had it up to here with 'Westminister' (Minister like the...
