Re: Does being Irish change anything?!?

That was indeed precisely the allusion I was making.

Re: Does being Irish change anything?!?

I meant no choice in whether or not they wanted to be British citizens in the first place ;)
Independent Irish citizenship is still a relatively new phenomenon.

Fair point on taking UK...

Re: Does being Irish change anything?!?

Possibly because for a very long time they had no choice in the matter.

British citizenship confers no advantage I'm aware of for Canadian Immigration purposes. If anything, acquiring it might...

Re: $8500 or €6000 to.....

Sounds like a scam. The High Commission doesn't charge anyone those kind of fees and they definitely don't get you a job. Where are you getting this from?

Re: student visa refused: help needed

It's hard to depart the United States if you're actually in Canada. I suppose you could make a special trip down there so you could then depart.

Re: Crossing border from Washington state ...

If you applied from within Canada and were there for 12 months prior to applying, you can be admitted as a permanent resident at the CIC office on Expo Boulevard with no need for any flagpoling.

Re: Work permit at the border and bridge u-turn

Andrew's right - send the application to Vegreville instead, as long as you don't plan to be out of the country for the 31st. If there's no need to put the CIC officer on the spot by showing up...

Re: How long for Passport Return???

Congratulations.

I'll have a beer in your honour tonight. I'll have to - there's a health warning out for the GVRD tapwater due to all the rain...

Re: Aug Aor's 2004 with September Delay letter

Why would they work on strict chronological order? If they're waiting for a background check to complete on an August AOR they're just supposed to sit on their hands until it comes back instead of...

Re: still waiting?

That may well be so, but it's unlikely to be the reason people have been waiting since May as a number of PPRs would appear to have been issued in the interim.

Re: Work Permit Extension

I've never had to leave the country to 'activate' one [been renewing year on year since 2001]. The only reaction was once I was directed to the immigration desks at Pearson Airport when returning...

Re: SIN card

Mine took about four weeks for a renewal back in January [through the HRSDC office at Main & 10th]. I'd imagine a new card would be around the same time.

Re: Andrew, hypothetically which is quicker ?

I was assuming that anyone considering applying with an LMO instead of an AEO would be doing so as they had already taken up the job it was based on, so would by implication already have the work...

Re: Andrew, hypothetically which is quicker ?

It's a relief to hear you say that - the last time this came up I was told an LMO/permanent offer combination would basically be ignored:

Re: Extending Work permit - Vegreville

No worries. I'm on my fourth extension now, hopefully it'll be the last I need. If you're absolutely stuck for time you can present at one of the Canadian Consulates in the US to get the renewal, but...

Re: Is circumcision an excessive demand in healthcare?

I see the problem - you appear to be under the impression that the glans, rather than the foreskin, is removed in circumcision. If this were the case I'd readily accept your equating male...

Re: Is circumcision an excessive demand in healthcare?

That makes about as much sense as demanding equal access to pap smears.

Re: How much does a Job Offer speed up your application To Canada

The norm would appear to be that there is no norm.

On that page both the LMO and AEO are cited as means of "strengthening" a PR application:

The only difference between the two seems to be...

Re: How much does a Job Offer speed up your application To Canada

Can you elaborate on why that would be so? According to the link you posted, the LMO should be the same as an AEO for PR applicants:
