Re: Anyone working in IT/Financial services in Halifax area?

Bought another one. Sold up expecting to be permanently in the UK, tried to buy one there but got screwed with the verbal system. So said bollocks to the whole thing and got our realtor to find us...

Re: Anyone working in IT/Financial services in Halifax area?

Hello :)
Fire away with questions. Happy to help. Lasted 11 months in the UK in 2015, now settled back by the lake in Mississauga.

Re: Moving back to UK to rent while property sells

We have just secured a rental after 10 years away in Canada. The outsourced reference agency wouldn't accept my continuing foreign business income (plus my husband is quitting here and hasn't secured...

Re: Working remotely in the UK for a Canadian corporation - taxes

Thank you!
Not yet, but now he's given notice, the cross border networking has begun.
Definitely easier going back than coming out - apart from the bloomin passport office taking forever :-(

Re: Working remotely in the UK for a Canadian corporation - taxes

Thanks for your reply. Sorry for the terminology confusion. Yes, I'm a shareholder and Director.
I will dig into the potential deductions the Canadian employer might have to take then.
The plan is...

Working remotely in the UK for a Canadian corporation - taxes

I'm moving back to the UK permanently in a couple of months, and everything I've researched so far suggests I will be non-tax resident for Canada and tax-resident for the UK at that point (sold...

Re: Can't abide Canadian word?

"Bring".
So simple, yet used incorrectly all the time.
"Bring this home with you", "bring my friend to the cottage"...
Aaaaaahhh, it's "TAKE" goddammit!!!!

My poor daughter gets hounded about...

Re: 9 year Canniversary.... Heading home :-)

I'm actually quite surprised at how many people are thinking about going back. I guess once you've moved about a bit it's fairly easy to it one more time.

Re: 9 year Canniversary.... Heading home :-)

Thanks all. Heading to Hampshire, probably Fleet.

It's hubby who might kick off the Gardiner massacre! Down to two lanes with construction, plus a conked out truck reducing it to one = 2.5 hour...

9 year Canniversary.... Heading home :-)

Hello all,
Long time, no see. Just hit the 9 year mark, but heading home as soon as the house has sold.
Life's great here, but not enough family time (lack of vacation and the bloody Gardiner...

Re: Hot tubs

We've got one. It came with the house. Heated it up at the beginning of last winter, and then never used it. Never very appealing to run across a freezing deck when you could be sat dry and cozy by a...

Re: mississauga with children

Not the bit I live in. North of QEW agreed, some horrible bits, but not where I am. It's like the nice bits of old Oakville with a shorter commute to TO.

Re: mississauga with children

Well I'm confused cos I thought that was those folks in Halton with the funny laws. And I'm in Miss with two indoor cats (one of which was an indoor cat in the UK) so I don't know if I'm up or down...

Re: Difficulty getting a job in Halifax ish area

Don't send your resume anywhere. Turn up at the office / store or whatever kind of place you are trying to get into and speak to the peolple there.

If they don't have something, ask them if they...

Re: Who is holidaying in Nova Scotia???

But MajesticMajor knows all about it cos they've lived in NS for years and has a balanced opinion, so they don't need to hear from someone who has been through it ;)

Re: Halifax Nova Scotia

I would be wary of 'more bang for your buck'. I didn't find that at all. Housing might be cheaper than London or the GTA but general cost of living I found worse. Income tax, groceries, property...

Re: Whats the right thing to do?

So sorry to hear about your Mum.

I would tell your Grandad where the funeral is and let him decide. If it's in a church, they are public places - nobody can stop any member of the random public...

Re: Still confused about Canadian calling....

I know how you feel. Seemed like a good idea at the time to move from Hampshire to the middle of nowhere, but we abandoned ship after 8 months in Fredericton and 5 years in Fall River, NS.

We now...

Re: Car dealerships & Cars

I would really recommend snow tires in NS - definitely a different kind of snow to that dry stuff you get in Alberta.
NS gets very wet snow that freezes and thaws a lot, and lots of ice patches...

Re: Vacuum Cleaners HELP!

Just get the Dyson. The cheapy alternative you buy will be crappy, and then you spend a fortune on central vac and that's really annoying too, dragging the bloody great hose about the place....
