Re: Immigration - Worth waiting for?

In a word: No.

When we put our Skilled Worker app in later 2004 they were "quoting" 18 months, this was in my opinion just barely acceptable.

A year later they were quoting 42 months, we had no...

Re: Good old CHC

From my experience they are a complete bunch of F.U.B's.

They seem completely incapable of getting our address right despite us telling them about 7 times (both directly and indirectly) that we...

Re: Rental situation in Golden, BC

I hope you like water, you will be surrounded by it!

There's no reason to panic though. Normally you would have the Kicking Horse river on one side of Gould's Island but with this being high water...

Hummingbirds

Hummingbird seaon is in full-swing here in BC so here's a couple of pictures of the little buggers in our back garden (ooops, I mean "yard").

If you have never seen one they are about the size of...

Re: Rental situation in Golden, BC

Um....a good question...

To be honest I don't know the answer as I don't keep my finger on the rental pulse.

There are plenty of places that are rented out in the ski season to folk "doing a...

Re: Iam very confused.

Iam a little confused too...

Why do you keep writing "I am" as "Iam"?

"I am"
"You are"
"He is"
"She is"
"They are"

Re: External Hard Drives?

Re: Moved: Calling all motorbike owners

I brought my bike to BC but whether I can get it registered and road legal is another matter.

If a bike (or car) is over 15 years old then you will be able to bring it to Canada and register it. I...

Re: unlocking uK mobile phones

I used http://www.unlockitfree.com/ and it worked just fine. There was a bit of faffing about to determine which type of Nokia code I needed (DCT4) but other than that it was pretty easy.

Re: Buying a house you've never seen?!?!?!

Don't do it!

Pay £1000 for flights etc. and go see it for yourself. I looked at some properties on MLS that seemed perfect but they weren't!

Re: Wages for Carpenters in Alberta and BC ?

I'm paying my builder between $35 and $50 per hour for him and his carpenters.

I believe his $35/hour guys get paid in the region of $20/hour.

Around these parts I don't think a carpenter would...

Yup, we're in Golden.

Bought a house 2.5 years ago and have been going through the immigration process ever since. A year after submitting the skilled worker application decided this was going to...

Re: Car lease on WP

Same here, should have mentioned in the earlier post that they wanted 10 months payments as a security deposit. The good part is that after 2 years and 2 months I have no more payments to make ;)

Get someone with a "Windows Media Center" PC to record it then copy the file to a CD and she can watch it on a PC.

Re: Anyone moving to BC this summer that fancies sharing a container?

Sounds very reasonable to me. I reckon my DIY method came out about $4000.

The plus side of doing it yourself may be time, my container arrived less than 4 weeks.

Re: Mud contamination on your shipped goods

We shipped our stuff in November and had a load of hassle from customs.

The bottom line was customs said the food/agri people would want to inspect the container contents because of a motorcycle,...

Re: Motorcyclists in Canada

Call me old fashioned but why would block a "fellow" biker's path? Just let him go. In a few minutes he will be out of sight, you will never see him again and no harm will be done to anyone.

If it...

I can understand their thinking on the commitment; why wouldn't you sell your house? I presume you have fair bit of equity tied up in it which would come in very handy for setting yourself up in...

It is my understanding that carpet fitters are like gold dust where we are (Golden, BC). Assuming this is is the case then I would expect there to be a shortage elsewhere too.

An English friend of...

I manage to get a Captial One credit card with just a work permit, a PR should have no problem getting one.

Re: Anyone moving to BC this summer that fancies sharing a container?

We did everything pretty much. Packed boxes, loaded container, dealt with customs, unloaded container.

There were lots of things I learnt:

1. I didn't save much money
2. I was very lucky not...

Re: Anyone moving to BC this summer that fancies sharing a container?

I know a couple hoping to move from Surrey to Golden BC around May time. They were thinking of getting a 40ft container but I suspect 20ft would be enough.

They are in BC at the moment for their...
