GTA: Free to air TV?

Ok, this is possibly a stupid question, but is it possible to receive any television channels over the air in the Toronto area, or do I have to pay for cable/satellite? If it is possible, is there...

Re: BIG taxi from Pearson Intl?

Sadly not, but thanks for the suggestion. Perhaps I should have taken that into account before making the booking :)

BIG taxi from Pearson Intl?

Hi, I'm going to be arriving in Toronto next month with my wife, 2 kids, dog and a load of luggage, and I'm wondering how to get it all from the airport to the hotel.

Are there likely to be...

Re: Finding what they need

Hi,

You can take a look at what jobs are being advertised in each area via a recruitment site such as monster:

http://english.monster.ca/

There is an official description of the job market...

Re: All my worries...

Hi Wannabe,

We're at exactly the same stage, and we've been through exactly the same worries. You are not alone!

Re: High Taxes - How do you make up for it?

For comparison, our council tax is £1700 this year for a fairly average 4 bed detached (about 1800ft, no basement) in the South of England. Swings/roundabouts...

Re: High Taxes - How do you make up for it?

That's interesting. We were rather assuming that we would both need to work. I would ask what the break even figure is, but I guess

a) That's personal, and
b) It's probably radically different...

Re: Attitudes to dogs, esp' York region?

Ah. I'm quite glad that I don't have cats anymore - I couldn't get used to the idea of not letting them outside. At least I know our dog would be fairly happy even if he had to stay on lead, but our...

Question Attitudes to dogs, esp' York region?

Hi all,

We're fully committed to moving to Canada, but amongst our concerns are an apparent difference in attitudes to dogs (and cats) compared with the UK. This is mostly based on checking the...

Re: High Taxes - How do you make up for it?

I tried working this through a couple of times, and at least for me it doesn't look that bad. Naturally, it varies according to province and income, but for my sort of salaries I'd be paying slightly...

Re: medicals

Yes, the costs certainly mount up, and up, and up. I'm not sure how some people actually manage to give up and go back to the UK - I'm pretty sure I won't be able to afford to! Scary costs so far:...

Re: medicals

I think it varies depending on where you go. Ours were in Croyden, and it came to just under £500 for two adults and two children.

Cheers,
James.

Re: medicals

Hi,

They measure height and weight, test blood and urine samples, and take a chest x-ray. The doctor has a list of yes/no questions regarding your medical history, checks your blood pressure,...

Re: Job Interview

Hi,
You get the employer to get the offer confirmed by HRSDC and send you a letter confirming the job offer and the HRSDC confirmation. Then I'd recommend you take it in person to the immigration...

Endowment - Tax?

Hi,

I'm trying to work out what's the best thing to do with our endowment mortgage policy. Seeing as it's slowly getting near maturity, I'm inclined to keep it going, but would I be hit with a big...
