Re: Australia's earliest settlers

One would need to determine the people who had ancestors who were involved as perpetrators and victims - a task which if done with any degree of accuracy would probably cost more than compensation...

Re: Dubai low wages - what gives?

Dubai's had huge influxes of people in the last couple of years - wages are stagnating as a result of a swelling and increasingly desperate labour pool across many industries. The cost of living,...

Re: Transferring salary from UAE to UK?

Revolut seems to be a popular one, but depending on how exactly you're being paid you might consider checking out TorFx and GC Partners as well. I have used both (and recommend them to clients...

Re: Australia's earliest settlers

Not sure I am aware of any people who conquer another, settle their lands and within a couple of centuries start guilt tripping themselves.

The Arabs and Turks certainly don't, and refuse point...

Re: Israel Palestinian

It's not without precedence in history.

If you want casus belli you simply let your enemy attack then you can retaliate without being accused of being the aggressor. It's just a variation of the...

Re: Israel Palestinian

This assumes Israel didn't know what was happening and allowed to happen so they could claim justification for retaliation. They have had the whole area under constant watch for years and know...

Re: Economic Migrants

I think people concerned about this issue aren't really worried about if the UK has taken in more or less than other countries. Every nation has different views and shouldn't have to be told they...

Re: UK Home (re)mortgage after leaving UK

Speak with a UK FCA registered mortgage broker who has experience dealing with expats specifically. There are usually always options available, and yes they might not be as favourable for expats as...

Re: UAE Healthcare - Medication

You don't have to register with a doctor in the UAE, and can see any doctor you like. It's not like the UK - you can book appointments directly with specialists right away if you wish.

A lot will...

Re: Debt in KSA work in UAE

It would have to be a sizable debt before you would have problems at the GCC level. Often they just write it off after a period of time but there are GCC level shared intel and they can issue arrest...

Re: Video from an angry immigrant on why not to move to Canada

This isn't dissimilar to many Western countries these days, especially when it comes to housing. Using the UK as an example, when the pound coin came out in the early 80s it cost about 4 times the...

Re: If China attacks Taiwan (off topic posts moved from finding a place to live)

The West wasn't thinking - they were dreaming.

Some politicians actually believed that by enriching China they would become friends. They really don't think Communism, a measurably more deadly...

Re: If China attacks Taiwan (off topic posts moved from finding a place to live)

Very true, especially about our greed. It never made sense to me that nations who cannot buy in China allowed Chinese to buy up their real estate, agriculture, or key infrastructure. Greed indeed.

Re: If China attacks Taiwan (off topic posts moved from finding a place to live)

The flaw of US Democracy especially is short term election cycles plus the ever growing divisions along party ideological lines. While lobby groups were happy to see China grow rich as it benefitted...

Re: If China attacks Taiwan (off topic posts moved from finding a place to live)

This highlights the continuing folloy of globalism.

Western countries can make all this themselves - but it might cost a bit more and that might drive down quarterly earnings. Needing to pay...

Re: If China attacks Taiwan (off topic posts moved from finding a place to live)

The West and the world isn't the same as it was in the first or even second Gulf War. Things have changed a lot in a short space of time. We seem to want to exclude the classes and groups that have...

Re: Looking for advice from brits with 15+ year old kids

Re: Tax if working for a UK company from Dubai

The UK firm should have you on the books as an overseas consultant or similar - people I know who do this have their own trade license and visa and invoice the UK firm each month - this may open you...

Re: If China attacks Taiwan (off topic posts moved from finding a place to live)

China doesn't need to invade Taiwan. It will continue to sit back and watch the West turn on itself while China profits from Western short-term thinking which is already costing the West its wealth...

Re: Savings/Investment options for cash in UK as expat?

There are inflation-linked property options in the UK but you'll generally be tying up money for 5+ years (unless you find a buyer) and there are other ways to invest in property aside from buying...

Precisely - people retiring overseas really need to look into this if they are expecting an inflation-linked state pension. Most expats can and should be making their own arrangements and viewing...

Re: **UK State Pension

The UK Government uses rates from Sept then raises them the following April - inflation doesn't stop for six or seven months and wait.

The triple lock you mentioned goes back to 2010 - pensioners...

Re: **UK State Pension

UK State pensions don't keep up with inflation, and governments can and do shaft people who pay into them by moving the goalposts about when they can retire.

Most expats can save and invest for...
