I applied for the citizenship on 11th Feb. I called them yesterday to find out what's happening and I was told that it can take up to 3 months to get the approval letter + another 3-6 months...

once your visa is validated you can leave the country for as long as you want. You can have multiple entries in five years after that you need a resident return visa.
